Although I know we all seek as many as we can contact to pray for a need. I realize it does bring comfort that their are so many caring people when we need their suport.

But I have these questions.
Are we trying to persuade a reluctant God to grant our prayer?

If one person praying isn't enough, is two, or ten or a hundred?

I recognize corporate prayer for a corporate need is helpful.
It confirns our corporate thirst.

Church revival seems to require the congreation praying long and fervently. I believe that is to demonstrate they mean business and will be obedient to its calling.

Finally, I do not recall an instance in Scripture where the disciples all got together to pray for an individual.

Good questions, Hal! And they are those I am sure everyone (who is honest, at least!) has asked them!

The bible says pray without ceasing, yet it also says believe that you receive when you pray and it is yours.

Much teaching seems to say: Pray, pray, pray. (Like the popular P-U-S-H ~ pray until something happens.)

But other teaching I personally have sat under says: Pray once. Believe you receive. Don't pray again, but only thank God for already doing it.

I know, personally, there are times when something is a desperate need, and I have called everyone and anyone, and called many ministry's prayer lines. I cannot say that any larger % of my prayers have been answered whether I just pray myself, or whether I ask multitudes to pray with/for me.

(Regarding scripture about praying together for an individual.... I do not have my bible handy this second, but the scripture about when Peter was in prison and all gathered to pray. In fact, when he came to the door, they were so shocked their prayers had been answered!)

Some prayer principles.

"You need compassion for that to work."

Faith is energized by love. You have to love the person, i.e. have compassion toward the needy person in order for prayer to have spiritual effect. This is one problem with soliciting prayers for people who you do not known or for issues you cannot commiserate with.

Hi Hal, I have often pondered this too.. but I am learning that no matter what we pray and how often and how.. God loves to hear us.. and He hears our real cries through our words.. I do believe that God is faithful to those who do not have others to join with them in prayer.. who just cry out even once!!
It is the heart.. that is the most important thing behind the prayer.. I think that is why God enables us to speak in tongues.. so that the real stuff.. the important stuff comes out.. But I am glad God lets us say all the other stuff anyway.. It helps that He always listens and does not condemn us and even when we are in the wrong just coming to Him makes us have to lay everything out.. and oh... the freedom..

He is so wonderful... sorry I am feeling very blessed right now by Him!! Praise His name..

Lev. 26:8And five of you shall chase an hundred, and an hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight: and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword.

Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high [places].

Jhn 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have [it] more abundantly.
