  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Which argument? There are several.

In the "Existence as Reality" argument, he loses me once he brings up the concept "perfection". I don't find this a helpful concept when speaking of either Existence or God.

I'm not sure I understand the argument. He just seems to be jumping round everywhere in his argument. It's also to vague to understand what he is talking about. Perhaps Wikipedia doesn't do his argument justice, in this short form.

Maybe this will help (although I am speculating here):

Koran 67: 1-3 said:
Blessed be He in Whose hands is Dominion; and He over all things hath Power;-

He Who created Death and Life, that He may try which of you is best in deed: and He is the Exalted in Might, Oft-Forgiving;-

He Who created the seven heavens one above another: No want of proportion wilt thou see in the Creation of ((Allah)) Most Gracious. So turn thy vision again: seest thou any flaw?
Tafsir of Koran said:
"you can see no fault in the creation of the Most Gracious. "
means, it (the creation) is done in a flawless manner, and these are connected with each other so as to forms a straight level, having no disunion, conflict, inconsistency, deficiency, flaw or defect.
I think in Muslim phiolosophy the empiricism vs rationalism paradigm is not there, and the non-secular is not treated with contempt but rather there is a basis for knowledge, divinely revealed. So alongside world and reason there is the Koran, a manifestation of divine inspiration - wahy.
