Hey all. In a couple months I'll be making the move from England to El Paso, TX to marry my fiancee and begin our new life together at last. It feels like a different world compared to England. I've visited a number of places in the south west on my various trips there such as Las Cruces, Carlsbad, White Sands etc. One thing I have wondered about is if I'm a rarity in being a Brit in that area? I understand there are a certain amount of us British in the larger cities like Houston and Dallas, but in the El Paso area? The surprised looks I got every time I spoke gave me the impression it's unusual for someone from here to be in that area?

Very unusual. I've lived in Phoenix for 30 years and I can count on one hand the number of people with a legitimate English accent and most of them were in the English pub downtown. Unless El Paso has oil or suffers from an oil spill I wouldn't think you would run into anyone English.

El Paso is bigger than many people think. It's not a little desert village on an oasis. It's actually the 19th largest city in the U.S., and the 6th largest city in Texas. People there will understand that the world is bigger than their back yard. You'll stand out, as most people there will NOT have an English accent, but I doubt that you'll be all that noteworthy.

I've been in the Dallas area for over three years. There is a LOT of diversity in this part of Texas, with a LOT of different accents. Much of Texas is not that diverse, but the cities tend to be.
