My wife and I just bought a home in Delaware. Land of tax free shopping!! Third most tax friendly state in the union (I wonder who's #1 & 2?) We are looking for a non-denominational church in the Wilmington are, if you know of one please pass it on. Thanx.

I went to Westminster Presby. when I was growing up. There you were judged by the fur coats and new hats you wore to church. I'll ask around and see what I can come up with.

I grew up in Wilmington and loved it. But I understand that for adults it's hard to break in to. That made me so sad when I heard that several years ago. I hope you have a good experience there.

Where in Wilmington? I was off the Kirkwood Highway around Prices Corner!

North Wilmington (housing has gone through the roof in past few years, homes have doubled and tripled there). Silversides Heights. Just off Philly Pike.

Don't I know it!

I know where Silverside is - I'll sniff around and see where buddies go to church!

Cool. What year? I live across the street from the football stadium.

Glurp - 1970! I lived with my parents in New Castle and used my little VW bug to get through rain, hail, sleet and snow to make classes. No traffic then on 273. That's a laugh now. Still have a lawyer and investment guy there so I get there once or twice a year.

Ok in the "old days" we used to go to a bar/tavern, can't remember the name - lol - too many brain cells burned in the bad old days. Oh yeah - the Deer Park. It was a dump then, but I went back about 10 years ago and it was kind of yuppiefied! Ferns in the corners instead of cigarette butts!

No kidding. I can walk to Main Street quicker than I can drive.

It's still there. It was really run down, I mean, a real dive. About three years ago, they decided to restore it to the way it was originally and play up the Edgar Allen Poe angle. They're trying to have it made a historical landmark because of Poe.

It's really nice now but I realize now that I liked it better as a dump.

I'm usually at the other end of the street at the East End Cafe. The music and the food are better.

I went back about 10 years ago and it was kind of yuppiefied! Ferns in the corners instead of cigarette butts!
HA! I must have missed those days. I can't imagine that. I only know it as a dive and then as the Disney-fied version.

Now the big yuppie place is Klondie Kate's.

I guess the Stone Balloon was there in '70? I know at one time it was supposed to be a nice place but it's awful now. It used to be a great place to go to hear music but they tried to make it an alternative (music) club and now nobody goes there anymore.

I forgot about the Stone Balloon! Went to see the KitKats there. Never heard of them, you say? Well, I'm not surprised. Local guys who made one, non-stereo, record album - one hit wonders with "Let's Get Lost on a Country Road".

Well, there's far more choices in Newark now than there were then, that's for sure. I even saw an Antique Mall on Main Street when I was there last! Ha ha!

Haha that's cool I live in DE, i'm in the Air Force. It's kind of funny to hear you guys talk about those places like the Stone Balloon and Klondike Kate's. I went there with some military buds a while back in my "BC" days (Before Christ) :p. I live in Dover at the moment, U of D is a pretty campus and a pretty cool cultural area.

It was my BC days also. But the campus was beautiful. I finished up my degree there and it ended up being a pretty good school also!
