  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Ninth Day

I watched this last night. It is about a priest from Luxembourg at the concentration camp Dachau. He is given 9 days leave so the Gestapo can attempt to use him to convince the Bishop of Luxembourg to embrace the occupying Nazis.

Regardless of your doctrinal belief it is a great tale of faith and sacrifice.

BTW it is in German, so ya have to use the subtitles;)

Yeah, it's a great tale based on a book written by Myron Augsburger-a Mennonite teacher, author, theologian. Michael Sattler is considered one of the great leaders & martyrs of our movement.

Funny story about this film--when I was going to the Reformed Baptist church one member, a school teacher, was using this film to discuss to his class about religous persecution (and it was a public school). Now being reformed anything (other than believer's baptism) that wasn't calvinist was sorta looked down upon. I remember saying to this teacher, "If you and I were in that time, and since we only accept believer's baptism, we'd both be put to the stake, and reformed/calvinist theology wouldn't save you." He looked at me funny and said, "I guess you are right".

Most of the Calvinist Baptists don't realize they have more in common with anabaptists than they do with presbyterian/reformed.

Michael Sattler is considered one of the chief leaders/organizers and martyrs of the movement.

Funny story: At the Reformed Baptist church I used to attend there was a school teacher using this film in teaching religious persecution. I said to him that if he (staunch calvinist that shared little in common with anabaptists other than believer's baptism) and I were in that day we'd be called anabaptists and put to the stake regardless of any "reformed" theology we held--our actions would be louder than any doctrine/creed we held. He looked at me and said "I guess you're right".

Calvinist Baptists don't realize that they have more in common with anabaptists than they do with presbyterian/reformed.
