  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi Everyone

So for awhile now I haven't felt motivated to do..well.. anything. I want to do things, but I end up getting out of it and not doing whatever it is. Awhile back I went into depression where I didnt want to do anything, but this time around I don't feel sad, or unworthy, or all the things I felt before, I just feel unmotivated. And believe me I've tried to get motivated. I've tried praying, which helped for a little. I've tried looking at things in different ways, like it's a game, or I need to do this for my family, or I need to do this because it'll be fun, or helpful or whatever. Certain things help for awhile, but usually it quits, and I stop. Like I'll start something fun,but then halfway through I want to quit. The only thing I've found so far that I enjoy doing and don't even need motivation to keep up is moderating here. So here's my question: What do y'all do to stay and keep motivated about things? Do you think it has anything to do with discipline in my case? Like is it not really motivation i need to work on, it's discipline that I need to work on.

I hope this makes sense and makes for some good conversing. :)

I get in the same boat sometimes. I find its because I feel stressed or burned out about something. What usually fixes it for me is some good old fashioned alone time, preferably hiking or just relaxing in nature somewhere with a nice view and thermos of coffee. :)

 I'm the same way. I have bunches of creative ideas but never really come thru with it. I think it is more discipline because I know when I get my mind around it and focus I can do it. I'm sorry that you dealt with depression   I'm hoping you are hanging in there!!

God Bless,

I lack motivation and discipline in almost everything these days. I also suffer from depression, which only makes things more difficult. I've been like this for quite a few years now. I started medication for my depression yesterday and am hoping it will make a difference.

Setting a specific goal is a good way to get yourself motivated. I have always worked best under pressure (I'm a procrastinator) so I usually have to put myself in a situation where I have a deadline.

Procrastination is a problem, of course, but we all need breaks from drudgery. It helps me to do something creative, or something else that is constructive, like going for a walk, or working out. But it only helps if I do it with the understanding that when I finish I will go back to whatever I'm supposed to be doing; that I'm not just having fun for fun's sake.

Other than that, the only thing that gives me motivation is boredom with everything I'm NOT supposed to be doing, which isn't particularly helpful advice.

I have the opposite problem. I'm impatient and driven. But I am very quick, even grocery shopping. People can feel the draft as I move through the store :)

I will have to try that. Working on what Im suppose to be doing then taking a break, and coming back to it.

Also, Jeff, lol that's a good thing! Well maybe not so much the blowing past people in the grocery store, but you get the idea. :p

My only motivation is that I don't have time not to get things done. During the week I am on the go constantly.

On the weekends however, that is a different story. I crash and nothing gets done. And I am OK with that.

I find I do best when I have structure (thus the difference between the week days and the weekends). When I was a SAHM I had to self impose structure - otherwise I was bored and depressed. YMMV.

Lately I am only motivated to go to work. By the time I get home from work or have a day off, it is more likely that I will be exhausted and just want to rest than do anything fun. I'm hoping this is just because I'm working long hours and recovering from a long illness. I do try to make myself do things around the house and go on dates with my husband, but some days I just can't. Today, I want to have a fun day.... and my motivation will be caffeine :sorry:
