Report: More than half of immigrants on welfare

More than half of the nation's immigrants receive some kind of government welfare, a figure that's far higher than the native-born population's, according to a report to be released Wednesday.

The majority of immigrants using welfare come from Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean. The use of welfare is lower for immigrants from East Asia (32%), Europe (26%) and South Asia (17%).

Joke article. Doesn't give any detail that would allow one to even think about this. So maybe one free pint of milk for your kid, ever, and you've received a welfare benefit? Nonsense. Zero hard data - just stoking the flames of xenophobia.

Seems like we should let more Asian immigrants into our country since they do so well?

My wife teachers third grade and the Asians that are in her class score very high.

Yes, but that's a common sense observation Bob... so it will not be considered.

Interesting article but I wonder how many read it all.

Interesting article but I wonder how many read it all.
So the SIPP surveyed 25,000 families over a 12 mth period 2008-9. The participates were self reporting.
Also.....
Moreover, unlike the SIPP, the ASEC asks about welfare only once in March of the calendar year after the programs were used. Respondents sometimes forget about programs used more than a year prior when asked in March of the following year. Researchers refer to this as recall bias
Welfare Use by Immigrant and Native Households

So if a family received food stamps for one month because they were laid off from a job, that counts as using welfare.
