  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Prayer is a way for the sinner to obtain salvation.

Luke 18:13: "And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner."

Luke 23:42: "And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom."

Acts 2:21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

And there are many many more verses. Maybe you can add some here.

It is a method of healing and the restoration of the backslider too.

16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
17 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.
18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.
19 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him;
20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

It is a method for curing the sick and afflicted.

13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.
14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

It is a way of keeping us from sinning

Matthew 26:41: "Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."

Prayer is such a powerful tool that God has blessed us with. Here's a scripture to tie in with the restoring of the backslider and keeping us on the right path by recieving instruction. When asking God to keep us on the right path we can also pray for correction in case we have taken a wrong turn. We must also have an open heart and be willing to accept that correction even if it means we must suffer a bit of humility.

Proverbs
15:29 The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.
15:30 The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart: and a good report maketh the bones fat.
15:31 The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise.
15:32 He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.
15:33 The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility.

Amen!!! I love these Scriptures. Especially Proverbs 15:31.

Father, forgive us when we err, and be merciful to us, so that we do not harden our hearts and thereby making it impossible for us to hear reproof. May we never fall among the numbers of the unwise, but rather receive reproof with gladness and thanksgiving, and be restored to Sweet fellowship with You through Jesus Christ and the Power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
