Hello, all--

I'll be in Montreal this coming weekend, and I'm looking for a good church for Mass. Traditional and faithful, of course, though not necessarily the Tridentine Latin Mass. Unfortunately, the website for the Archdiocese of Montreal is woefully lacking. Any recommendations from my friends north of the border?

God bless,
Sam

I was in Quebec City last summer. (I know it's not Montreal, but it may be helpful) The hotel I stayed at had a pamphlet on local church schedules written in English and French. I ended up finding a Roman Catholic service in French while walking around the city.

But I had the same problem finding mass times on the internet before the trip. I had to find one once I got there. You could also ask the hotel desk for information.

Sam,

I'd recommend either of the two Eastern/Oriental Catholic cathedrals in Montreal, but I'm prejudiced that way ;) .

Saint-Sauveur Melkite Greek-Catholic Cathedral
(Eparchy of Saint Sauveur of Montreal of the Melkites)
(currently worshipping at Notre Dame des Anges)
5621 Blvd. Gouin Ouest
Montreal, PQ
Tel.: (514) 288-7753

Saint-Maron Maronite Catholic Cathedral
(Eparchy of Saint Maron of Montreal of the Maronites)
10755, St-Charles
Montréal, PQ
(514) 388-0800

Here's two parishes with Latin Masses - the first is the 1962 rite, the second is the 1970 rite.

Church of St. Cunegonde
2461 rue St.-Jacques Oueste
Montreal Quebec H3J 1H8

St. Patrick's Church
460 Blvd. Rene-Levesque Oueste
Montreal Quebec H2Z 1A7

I have had the pleasure to visit both of those and they are magnificent churches. St. Patrick's is a Minor Basilica.

There's an excellent online series of photos, exterior and interior, of both Sainte-Cunegonde and Saint Patrick. Scroll to the very bottom of each page to find the link to the interior views.

I just called my uncle in Montreal; he suggested Notre Dame Cathedral, which happens to be a tourist attraction (in a good way). The address is 116 Notre-Dame West, Montreal, right downtown.

Here's a link to a Macromedia Flash map of the area.

Have fun!
