  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I've heard nothing but happy ravings about how they are the best thing ever. :)

If we weren't so into homeschooling, my children would probably be attending the Montessori schools in our community.

I like the hands-on approach to learning--they don't dump learning, but they divorce learning from a dead textbook/workbook approach and instead make it alive and delightful (like it's supposed to be!).

The history of Maria Montessori is fascinating (any library will have books for you to look at on that). I'm an education (history-theory-philosophy) nut and read just about anything on the subject, and I really enjoyed reading what got the Montessori movement started and all that jazz.. But you'll have to go read it yourself, because I've got to shut off the computer and make bread for dinner tonight now! ^_^

Love in Him,
Molly

I've heard of them but don't really know anything about them, so I'll keep an eye on this thread as well!
I don't know a great deal about them, but it's set up way differently than public schools (and even many private schools). It's child-led learning, a very hands on approach, classrooms are organized into specialized activity centers, that sort of thing.

I'm a single mom and if there was any way, I would absolutely send my daughter there.

Everything you're read is true. They have a non-traditional schooling and most are very loving and caring places by design. They provide problem-solving skills just out of each child's reach and help them reach the conclusion so that they learn "on their own" as opposed to the "because the adult says so" approach.

My next door neighbor's daughter goes there and is three and she plays on the level with my 6-year-old and my daughter's daddy is mensa smart-- so even with me in the mix, she's above average.

I would HIGHLY encourage you to seek more info from the school, visit and work it into your household budget. My opinion, next to providing the avenue for growing in God's love, it's the second best thing you can do!

It sounds pretty cool and is something we will most likely check out at some point. Our school district actually has a Montessori program, and it doesn't cost extra for your children to attend (although you do have to pay tuition if you send your kids at age 3 as is recommended, and children enrolled in the preschool get first consideration once they reach the kindergarten level). I'll be interested to see if anyone who has a child in one of these programs posts. I've read up on Montessori some on the internet, but I'd like to hear about some first-hand experience.
