Next month will markone year with my bf. Im 23 and he's a little younger, but that's not the issue.. the problem is im super close to my family and value their opinions, but my mom has come out and told me she hates my bf. It started in oct when he made a "white joke"about her. She got over it and he spent all of the holidays with us. He has been great, to me. I've been on bed rest for five months and he's stood by me patiently and loving, but he has this prob where he says the WORST things at the worst times and comes off a lil rude to her at times. It had gotten to where, with effort on her part, she was softening up to him and was even taking vday pics of us and joking but last night he made a comment about womeno in their 40s being old and she's 41so needless to say she was insulted an after catching himself he kinda kept going with his statement. So again she told me she hates him with everything in her and she's done trying that from now on when he comes over she's not going tone rude but she's not going to try either. We're talking about marriage and she knows he wants to marry me, but how can I bring her closer to him I need her approval to be happy right now I feel sick... help.

CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Sounds to me like the two of them need to have a bit of a chat and work out the issues rather than letting them boil up.
