Moldy Bread and Dog Doo-doo

Sunday, October 11, 2009, 8:38 a.m. – I woke this morning from a dream.

THE DREAM: There were several people in this house – My oldest brother, my daughter, a neighbor boy, someone that was not specifically identified and myself.

I know that I told my brother that I had bought a cartoon movie for him to watch while he was there. It was one that our family had watched several times, so I wasn’t sure that my family would want to watch it again, yet I thought my brother might want to view it. [When I awoke and was thinking about this part of the dream, the song “Stayin Alive,” sung by the Bee Gees was in my head - YouTube - Stayin' Alive - Bee Gees (lyrics). I know that song was sung by the pig in the cartoon movie “Chicken Little,” which was about the end of the world as we know it.]

There was also this sense that there was someone else there, someone not identified specifically, but a person who had several things in common with my brother.

There was a mess in the kitchen to clean up. My daughter had a spot on her face that she was trying to cover up, so she was working on that. Someone needed to wash the dishes, but I don’t think anyone was doing them. There were at least 3 or 5 dog doo-doo piles on the floor in the kitchen and one of them somehow got flung (or flipped) on to the top of the refrigerator.

I asked a neighbor boy to clean them up. I asked him if he had a shovel, so he went home and got a broom and a dust pan to clean the dog doo-doo piles up. He got up to the top of the refrigerator to clean the pile of dog doo-doo off of there, when he/we discovered that there were several loaves (or partial loaves) of moldy bread on top the [wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth]. So, he cleaned those off, as well. I think I helped hand him some of this bread. END

Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening. I read Hosea 9:

Punishment for Israel
1 Do not rejoice, O Israel;
do not be jubilant like the other nations.
For you have been unfaithful to your God;
you love the wages of a prostitute
at every threshing floor.
2 Threshing floors and winepresses will not feed the people;
the new wine will fail them.
3 They will not remain in the LORD's land;
Ephraim will return to Egypt
and eat unclean food in Assyria.

4 They will not pour out wine offerings to the LORD,
nor will their sacrifices please him.
Such sacrifices will be to them like the bread of mourners;
all who eat them will be unclean.
This food will be for themselves;
it will not come into the temple of the LORD.
5 What will you do on the day of your appointed feasts,
on the festival days of the LORD ?

6 Even if they escape from destruction,
Egypt will gather them,
and Memphis will bury them.
Their treasures of silver will be taken over by briers,
and thorns will overrun their tents.
7 The days of punishment are coming,
the days of reckoning are at hand.
Let Israel know this.
Because your sins are so many
and your hostility so great,
the prophet is considered a fool,
the inspired man a maniac.

8 The prophet, along with my God,
is the watchman over Ephraim,
yet snares await him on all his paths,
and hostility in the house of his God.
9 They have sunk deep into corruption,
as in the days of Gibeah.
God will remember their wickedness
and punish them for their sins.
10 "When I found Israel,
it was like finding grapes in the desert;
when I saw your fathers,
it was like seeing the early fruit on the fig tree.
But when they came to Baal Peor,
they consecrated themselves to that shameful idol
and became as vile as the thing they loved.

11 Ephraim's glory will fly away like a bird—
no birth, no pregnancy, no conception.
12 Even if they rear children,
I will bereave them of every one.
Woe to them
when I turn away from them!
13 I have seen Ephraim, like Tyre,
planted in a pleasant place.
But Ephraim will bring out
their children to the slayer."
14 Give them, O LORD—
what will you give them?
Give them wombs that miscarry
and breasts that are dry.

15 "Because of all their wickedness in Gilgal,
I hated them there.
Because of their sinful deeds,
I will drive them out of my house.
I will no longer love them;
all their leaders are rebellious.
16 Ephraim is blighted,
their root is withered,
they yield no fruit.
Even if they bear children,
I will slay their cherished offspring."
17 My God will reject them
because they have not obeyed him;
they will be wanderers among the nations.

My Understanding: I was reading our local newspaper. We live in South Carolina. Our governor is Mark Sanford. He’s been in the news a lot lately. This article I read today was paralleling his life and political career to that of Bill Clinton, in particularly comparing their extra-marital affairs while in public office and how they responded to them. My oldest brother also lives in SC. He has often portrayed “Big Brother” or specifically either GW Bush or Bill Clinton, because they were all born the same year. Anyway, this article jumped out at me because in the dream my brother was being compared to another (unknown) person, looking at what the two had in common.

Further Understanding: The kitchen in a house is the place where food is stored, prepared, served and eaten. So, it represents the center of government (or of the church) where laws are made and decisions are carried out and where provisions and plans are “cooked up”. The kitchen can also represent the heart of the matter; motives; and inner workings of something, i.e. the government (local or national). The refrigerator appears to be a symbol of a machine, i.e. an organization that is protected and insulated (a cabinet) – could be the President’s cabinet, or the President and senior administration officials, or Congress and the President, and/or it could be the governor and his senior advisers – a machine (mechanism) that keeps things cool (calm) by artificial (unnatural) means (methods). So, the top of a refrigerator would thus be the president (nationally) or the governor (locally/state).

My daughter usually represents the people of the church or of the nation. Her name is Jenny, and Governor Sanford’s wife’s name is also Jenny. In a sense, the governor and the president are “married” to the people. They are in a contractual relationship with the people of the state and of the nation. We voted them into office and they took oaths (promises to the people) of office, just like Clinton and Sanford took marriage vows to their spouses. They promised their wives to be faithful to them and they promised the people of the USA and of South Carolina to be faithful to them, and yet we have two examples here (and there are many more) of men who have broken their promises to God, to their wives and to the people whom they serve.

In the dream there was a “mess” in the kitchen that needed to be cleaned up. Dirty dishes needed washed, but no one was washing them. Dishes are used for serving food, so they are what the food (laws, decisions) are served on to the people, i.e. lawmakers and/or law enforcement are the means through which the people receive the laws or through which the laws are enforced. There is uncleanness here either in the making of the laws and/or in the enforcing of the laws, probably the latter. I think my daughter was supposed to be cleaning the dishes, i.e. cleansing this house of sin, yet she was trying to cover a spot on her face with something instead. A face can be a symbol of countenance, façade, pretense, public image, character, etc. A spot is a mark; blemish; stain, so there is a blemish to her image; to her character, which she is trying to cover up instead of openly confronting, evidently. I know that Clinton was impeached, but he was never removed from office.

There is mess, i.e. disorder, disaster, a tragedy, ruin, a catastrophe, a calamity, a huge failure in the center and inner workings of our government on a national level and on a state level in the USA. Clinton is no longer in office, but he is not the only one who has been unfaithful to his wife and to the people. Sometimes it seems like once a week we read in the news about some government official in some type of scandal or caught in some corruption. This is not exclusive to the offices of governor and president, either. That is why the dog doo-doo has piles on the floor (the part of the building housing a legislative body where the members sit and where official debates and discussions take place) as well as there is a pile (a number of things heaped or stacked one on top of another) on the top of the refrigerator. These are an accumulation of many years and of many government officials, I believe.

So, I asked a “neighbor boy” to clean up the mess of dog doo-doo on the floor and on top of the refrigerator and there he found moldy bread, too. Hosea 9 states that the people of Israel, who are now being paralleled over to the people (church) of the USA, I believe, just like Clinton and Sanford are being paralleled, were unfaithful to God and they loved the wages of a prostitute. So, God declared that they would be taken captive by Assyria and that they would eat unclean food. Their religious rituals will be to God like “the bread of mourners” – unclean and unacceptable.

This “unclean” and “moldy” food, nonetheless, was on the top of the refrigerator, i.e. at the top of government in the USA and in SC. This news article states that “extramarital affairs mushroomed into far-reaching scandal for both men, and both followed a similar path in fighting for their political survival. First, they lied…” A mushroom is a fungus and a fungus is mold. So, our leaders are feeding the people lies, deceit, unfaithfulness, cover-ups, scandals, etc. And, the way they are surviving is just by keeping their heads above water, i.e. “Stayin alive” – “Life’s goin' nowhere. Somebody help me, yeah. Stayin' alive.” It is a totally hopeless song. And, it describes these two men.

In the dream, I bought a cartoon movie for my brother to watch. The movie, “Chicken Little,” is about an incoming enemy attack. Chicken Little sees what is happening, and he tries to warn the people, but no one believes him and they mock him and make fun of him. Hosea 9:7-8 speaks of “days of punishment” that are coming. Hosea was told to let Israel know this. God has also called me to tell the people of America that this is coming. And, Chicken Little told the people of his town that they were under enemy attack. The passage in Hosea says, though, that because Israel’s sins were so many and their hostility so great that a prophet is considered a fool, the inspired man a maniac. Chicken Little faced this. I’ve faced this to some degree. Hosea most certainly faced this, as well. Yet, he knew he must warn Israel, even if snares awaited him on all his paths and there was hostility in the house of his God, i.e. from fellow believers.

V. 6 says, “Even if they escape from destruction, Egypt will gather them…” What stood out to me here is that Clinton was impeached (brought to court; charges brought against him) and yet he was never removed from office. Sanford may also escape being removed from office. Yet, they will not escape God’s judgment. God will one day judge them for their sinful deeds. God has rejected them because they have not obeyed him. The day of reckoning is at hand. The song that was in my mind in the morning was “What goes around comes around. What you reap is what you sow…” God will remember their wickedness and he will punish them for their sins. God says that he will drive them (Israel) out of his house because their leaders are rebellious, so this is a judgment against the people, as well.

The words that are really jumping out at me here are –

The days of punishment are coming,
the days of reckoning are at hand.
Let Israel know this.

For me, that translates to “let America know this.” Days of punishment and days of reckoning are most certainly coming to the United States of America. God is calling to his people to humble themselves and pray, to seek his face and to turn from their wicked ways (repent). He longs to forgive and to restore and to heal. We must go through this period of judgment known as the Tribulation, but one day Jesus will return for his bride and then we will be with the Lord forever. Are you ready?
