I'm going to see them in the Lollapalooza festival this summer. Yay for me ;)

They're cool. I really like "Dramamine," "3 Inch Horses, Two Faced," and "Gravity Rides Everything."
Haha, I figured you would be a fan. What cd do you suggest I buy from MM? Who else is playing Lollapalooza?

I don't have any of their cds, actually. A friend of mine burned me a cd with a bunch of their songs on it, so I'm not sure what songs I like are from which album :sorry:

Lollapalooza is gonna be rockin'. Aside from Modest Mouse, Sonic Youth, the Flaming Lips, Morrissey, and the String Cheese Incident will be playing. I can't wait.

As a fellow college student always short on money...I understand.

so i got a question about modest mouse. i've only heard a few tracks from different albums and never really got into them. Most of the stuff sounded spoken word-y. then i was in an indie record store in my city and this guy next to me asked the people who worked there who was playing, and it was MM; and the songs were really great, but i never asked which album it was....foolish. so i was curious if anyone knew of MM's albums that may be less spoken word-y?

Hey Nico, haven't seen you around here in a while :)

I don't think most of their music is spoken word; I'm pretty sure that at least most of "The Moon and Antarctica" isn't. I don't know, I've never heard them do a spoken word piece, actually. The guy's voice isn't very melodic, so it may sound that way some, but that's all I can think of.

MM has put out a ridiculous amount of material in a short time, and although I haven't heard a full album, a friend of mine told me that some cds are great and some aren't as good. If you want to give them a shot, I would suggest downloading. Normally the better tunes will be the easiest to find. If you don't like doing this, check out half.com. Search for Modest Mouse; their most popular albums will be at the top of the list...you can normally find some pretty good deals there.

The absolute BEST MMouse album is "The Lonesome Crowded West." IMO. "This is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About" is okay, though a little to hard for my tastes. "Building Nothing Out of Something" is good, though not as many gems are "Crowded West." "The Moon and Antarctica" is stellar too, though a little to shiny, I think. I have yet to listen to their newest album, "Good News for People Who Hate Bad News."

Hmm...'tis a shame that I don't remember what song it was, but it was off of Good News for People Who Love Bad News.

Modest Mouse is an odd, original band (progressive by my declaration), probably appealing to the college scene more than any other demographic; they have been around for a good portion of the 90s. It is hard to describe their style, and they may have more of an emo sound on their newer album, I haven't heard it, however, in the past their songs varied greatly. They are probably comparable to Flaming Lips, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and bands of the such. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
