The parish I belong to, St. Tikhon's Orthodox Mission, has been meeting at the Catholic Student Center at the local university. This Sunday we will celebrate Divine Liturgy in our own building! It is a real blessing. It is a small church building with lots of land for growth. And the monthly payments are very affordable.

Watching this church grow has been amazing. It all started with one family who came to Orthodoxy, then started meeting in their home with others who were interested. We had a priest who came once a month on Saturdays for liturgy. Then, when we moved to the CSC we had a retired priest come once a month on Sundays, with readers service on the other weeks. In July we got our own priest and now our own building!

Just wanted to share.

Peace.

Peter

Glory be to God !

I am glad to see that the progress that our little mission is making is being duplicated elsewhere. Our mission started much the same way, with reader services in the local Weslyan College.

It's wonderful to hear about these churches getting their own buildings. :D I am glad that my church, while it is VERY tiny, has its own building. Not to be superficial, but I think it gives a better impression to inquirers to have a place of our own to worship, rather than saying, "We meet at the community center" or whatever. Not only that, but you don't have to take everything down every week. But worship anywhere is better than worship nowhere, that's for sure!

I agree. While worship is job 1, to fulfill our mission it helps to give a sense of permanence to the community.

Well, yesterday was the first Divine Liturgy in our new home. It was grand!
We spent Saturday finishing the first steps of renovation, the altar area, and cleaning up in general.

We have a ways to go before we are done with the renovations, but it's nice to be able to have a home.

Peace.

Dear Peter,

I am very happy for you. It's nice to feel at home in your own church.
Thanks for sharing this with us.
