I had an embarrassing health related problem today. Because of this I decided to skip Mass. (i only go on Saturdays except Easter, for other reasons). By the time Mass was going to start I was feeling better but not sure it was over. Then I thought my issue was over, but by that time I‘d already decided to do something else. I plan to watch Mass online tomorrow morning and participate to make up for missing today, except I obviously won’t take communion. Is that an excuse to skip Mass or do I need to confess this?

If you are truly in a situation where you can’t go, there is no reason to confess it. This could be that you are ill, taking care of a loved one, dangerous driving conditions, etc.

Yes, but I was feeling better by the time Mass was about to start but went out to do other things anyway.

Well if it makes you feel better, go ahead and confess it. Can’t hurt anything. :)

So, you were at risk for picking up an illness or passing one on.

As far as I know, Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation for Catholics have received
dispensation if they are a health risk to themselves or others. This applies
especially for those over 65 years of age.

I have more concern over why you felt ill in the first place.
Is there an underlying health issue? See your doctor to
be checked out.

I pray you feel OK!

I think the only way for me to give a better assessment would be to know more about the health problem, but you are not obligated to disclose it.

I’m seeing a specialist at the end of June, but it’s not contagious.

Doesn't matter if it's not contagious, your health can be put at risk
by going into large crowds. Your immune system may be compromised.

No. Being ill isn’t a sin. Ask a priest, but don’t stress yourself out.

God bless

I don’t work but if I did, I’d stay home or go in late.
Yes, that's exactly the idea. I believe that's what our priest told us as a guide. You do what's reasonable. Many people wouldn't even ask, the fact that you are asking is such a good sign, and please, from one who knows, try not worry and remember God loves you.

The thing that bothers me is that my problem was over shortly before Mass started but then I made other plans and skipped Mass when I could’ve gone.

You can bring it up with the priest in confession. You just say I have a question.
