Dear Daily Message Readers,
READ: 1 John 2:28-3:10
1 John 3:7 (NIV) "Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. He who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous."
When you represent a group of people, one public mistake can make a large difference in how you are perceived by others.
For example, when a drum major from UCLA tossed his baton in Ventura, California, it hit two 4000-volt power lines, blacking out a ten-block area and putting a radio station off the air. The baton melted, followed by the image of the band.
Also, on his first assignment for the Chicago Tribune, a rookie reporter drove a company car to a car-crushing plant, parked in the wrong spot, and returned from interviewing the manager just in time to see the vehicle being compacted into scrap metal. The workers at the plant had many funny stories to tell about Tribune that affected the number of subscriptions in that area of town (Christianglobe.com).
Followers of Jesus Christ are like these groups in some ways. We are not all drum majors or even reporters, but we are clothed with the righteousness that comes from God, and the way we live our lives is a true reflection of our Boss, Jesus Christ (Romans 3:21-22). We are the embodiment of the truth of God in our world. We uphold the principles of Jesus Christ. Our deeds of holiness, mercy, and love set us apart and stand out boldly to the watching world. We do not act only for ourselves, but everything we do speaks volumes about the One to whom we belong.
As we live for Jesus Christ each day of the year, may we demonstrate a strong commitment and determination to represent Him in a way that brings glory to the Father. Faith Lesson: Ask yourself: When people look at me, do they see Christ or something else?
In Christ,
Darin Smith
