Very simply, a miracle is something that happens despite natural law staing that it can't. For example, the sun standing still for a day, the resurrection of Christ, the Great Flood etc. Beyond these great events are smaller miracles. For example, a person hears a voice telling them not to get on a plane. That plane later crashes. Coincidence? Not if you consider that actually hearing the voice was not possible. What is a person sees and angel or a demon? They do not exist in the physical world so their appearance could be called a miracle if you believe that the physical word is all that exists.
Some miracles are simply statistically improbable, but do not violate natural law. For example. A large nail finds it way into a can of tuna. How likely is this to happen given the quality control and the fact that nails and tuna are not used together. Now add that the can is sent to Africa and is purchased by a missionary. Now add the fact the the missionary was just trying to tell the story of the crucifxion and prayed for God to guidence. Almost immediately afterward he opens the can of tuna with the nail in it. What are the odds? Maybe a billion to one? Still, it happened.
Psychiatrists say that personalities don't change, but sometimes when a person finds God they do. If God exists then this is no miracle. If there is no God, then this is impossible; so it depends on your perspective.
Let's say for example a person sees two demons. The existence of demons is referenced throughout our history, but science would conclude they do not exist. Suppose those demons went into the room of a child, who then exhibited signs of demonic possession. The child was barely old enough to form words, but he cursed with words he didn't know. He became violent when anyone approached with a Bible. He was far stronger than he should have been. He mumbled in words that could have been gibberish or another language. Without an extensice knowledge of other languages, nobody knew. An exorcism was performed on the child, after which all negative traits immediately went away. Scientists say this can't happen. It did happen. I personally know the people involved.
Some miracles have multiple witnesses. Angels pulled two people out of a burning car and then just disappeared. There were multiple witnesses, all who saw the same thing. Getting people to agree on ANY event is difficult. It's much more so when it can't happen.
Miracles are much more rare today than they were in ancient times because the requirement for salvation is so much less. Since Jesus came, man is saved through faith alone. Atheists will have their proof when they stand before God and he casts them into the lake of fire with all who reject His word. No faith, no salvation. It wouldn't be any different if He gave them the proof they always talk about wanting. When you have proof, there is no faith. Personally, I'm glad God didn't take that away from me.
Atheists will reject everything written here about miracles, but I don't care. Their opinion is irrelevant. Nobody is ever going to make it into Heaven by saying, "But the atheists convinced me you weren't real."
