  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

OK, I already posted this in the P/R/E forum, but as I like it here better ;) I'd love to hear what any of you can add to this, because I love these stories.

So this Sunday, I was at church and the pastor was doing an awesome speech on the best methods of effective prayer. He was using examples, and halfway through the sermon he said, I think there is someone here who loves God but isn't quite sure about how to pray.. (and listed a few personal things that I can't remember). He went on, the Holy Spirit is telling me this person is on the balcony.. is there anyone this applies to? At this point, I notice the girl next to me is in tears, and she kind of half raises her hand. The pastor, smiled and carried on the service.

I was totally blown away as this was the first time I had actually seen the Holy Spirit actually talk through someone.

Does anyone else have any stories they can share? GB !!

Lots of times! :)

The most amazing recent one was before Christmas, when I felt a strong urge to leave the house an hour before Mass.
At the end of my street, a man staggered into the street as the lights went green and had a seizure in the road.
By the time I had sorted him out, I was in perfect time for Mass :prayer:

Several times things like this have happened. Just last week my mom had this urge to stop off at the grocery store on the way home from Mass. We really didn't NEED anything but she wanted to grab some laudry soap and a couple of misc. items. When she got ready to check out and was waiting in line there was a poor man in the line ahead of her with some groceries, he was counting change and wound up a few dollars short. As he began trying to figure out what he would take off, my mom said "No, don't take anything out, I will cover you". Even though this is not as big as saving someone's life, it is the little things like this that I see so often. You know that God is watching out for His people. It's funny how as soon as I made my decision to walk again with Jesus these things begin to become so noticable in my life. My Mom recognize right away that she was meant to be in that line behind that poor guy. If we keep our eyes wide open we will find situations like this everyday. :D

Oh and Asbury....Great thread!

You might find that Catholics won't respond much in threads about "testimonies" and such. It's not that we don't have religious/spiritual experiences, it's just that we tend to be more quiet about them. Kinda like the Gospel where it says to keep things between you and God and you will receive a greater reward. I guess too it has to do somewhat with the almost unusual amount of confidence that Catholics have in our faith. We just don't find much need to talk about these things in order to somehow make us feel MORE confident. I'm not dissing other faiths for doing it, but for me, personally, I don't need to see or hear about great signs and wonders in order to strengthen my faith. Like perhaps many other Catholics, we just KNOW.

Please don't take this a critic on the opening poster. It is a comment on why we may not see a large amount of responses here as opposed to on PRE.
