  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I've always heard military prison is worse than "regular/civilian" prison but no one ever explains why!

Recently a guy in my dh unit got sentenced to 5yrs in military prison. He's got a wife and two kids. Isn't it safer since your not w/ hard core criminals and it's more disciplined! I really feel sorry for this family, and personally I don;'t think waht he did is worthy of 5yrs! All dh said is they make you work more, but I don't qualify that as being "worse" where safety is at stake!

From what I understand, it is considered worse simply because it is more strict. Chances are you won't be killed by your cellmate, but you will be doing physical labor. In the case of safety, I would say you are right, it is better. But, I doubt a soldier (actually, basically because of the contract you signed I think it would be impossible) can sue the prison for not having enough basketball courts (happened in TN I think), or because they don't have cable.

P.S. I know some crimes carry worse sentences during wartime. So what your friend did may not seem to deserve it, but it might be the circumstances in which they occured that led to the sentence. Think about this, they have something called "missing movement" which basically states that if you are late and don't make it in time to leave with your unit, you can be charged with a crime.
