Mikel Gensai

Name: Mikel Gensai
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Nationality: Sal Kadedin
Age: 23
Height: 5'7"
Weight: 135 lbs
Appearance: A small and wiry young man with messy, tawny blonde hair, a constant smirk and hazel eyes that indicate far greater intelligence than many would suspect. He is light on his feet but not particularly strong.
Clothing: Mikel wears comfortable, loose-fitting clothing, over which he wears a light robe indicative of his mana training. He has no real rank among the mana wielders and quite prefers it that way.
Personality: Often sarcastic and a bit of a joker, but his perceptions are excellent and he has greater knowledge of all things magic than his minor abilities would seem to indicate. Though he seems to be all jokes and hot air at first, he actually has a very strong will to do what's right and an immense amount of courage and self-sacrifice. However, he also has a tendency to think his ideas are the best and frequently gets into trouble when those ideas backfire. There is also a dark side to him, though, one that he has yet to confront.
Profession: Mana wielder; Sal Kadian army scout currently working with Intelligence
Alignment: Church and Sal Kadian Intelligence, although lately he has been a little bit too curious about the Zantukites.
Weapons: A beat-up old dagger with various interesting stains and scratches, and a light mace.
Abilities: Mikel seems to have far more mana ability than anyone ever suspected. He is excellent at manipulating mana that's already in place, but he also has untrained mental ability-- mind-reading and possibly manipulation. He is also highly intuitive.
Fighting Style: Mikel tries to pull a few mana tricks if at all possible to stop a fight before it gets too serious, or just avoid it altogether, but if things do get rough then out comes his dagger. He does not play nice when fighting and cares very little for honor or chivalry.
Background: Mikel has a fairly unremarkable background on the most part, with the exception of the house fire that first resulted in his acquaintance with Quennith and Teglon. Some suspect that Mikel's burgeoning abilities might have gone awry, and afterwards Mikel buried the experience in his memory along with the majority of his mana-wielding ability-- though nobody knows if that's really true or not save some part of Mikel's unconscious mind, he did come out of the experience with a new reluctance to make full use of his mana and less ability with it in general.
He is the only boy in his family, as he has both an older and a younger sister. The older one is his senior by 6 years, and the younger is about 5 years his junior and just now in adulthood. It is little wonder he latched onto Quennith and Teglon-- Quennith was close enough to his age to enjoy his company, and Teglon was like an older brother to him.
Isliel, however, was a completely different story. Although Quennith got on with her well enough and Teglon was deeply in love with her, Mikel strongly disliked the little healer from the start-- something about her always rubbed him the wrong way, and just being around her made him tense. He always acts rather cold and distant with her and has a dark foreboding that she might be more than she seems.
Miscellaneous: Lately, Mikel has shown a side of him previously unseen-- an inner strength that's difficult to match. Thanks to Girithtur he has just recovered from the battle underneath Zarkiara... it has left him with a new awareness of things he has yet to articulate.
Quirks: Mikel has developed a liking for 'Warp the Tongue' and seems to particularly enjoy the company of Elves. He is also curiously sympathetic towards the Zantukites, yet at the same time harbors revulsion towards the Shardalonians.
Objectives: Investigate the Zantukites thoroughly-- especially to satisfy his own curiosity-- and get a better grip on his mana abilities. He also wants to pierce through that veil Isliel has shrouded herself with...
Quote: "I think I have an idea..." (Quennith and Teglon groan)

Teglon Mersedis

Name: Teglon Mersedis
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Nationality: Sal Kadedin
Age: 37
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 210 lbs
Appearance: Teglon is every inch the consummate swordsman-- he's tall and quite broad in the shoulders, with strong arms and a powerful sort of grace about him. Though he declines to call himself a paladin there are many others who see him that way. He has short black hair sprinkled with gray, and dark green eyes that are equally quick to notice threats and admire the great artistry of the Lord's creation. There is also a certain gentleness about him, though, that doesn't quite mesh with his choice of career.
Clothing: Usually wears some type of chain mail to indicate that he is a soldier, and he usually bears the device of Sal Kadedin as well. While in Phelatia, though, he tries to blend in a little more.
Personality: Teglon is generally quite patient and calm, and enjoys simple things like a nice view and beautiful music. Though relentlessly logical most of the time, he is also very artistically minded and absolutely adores drawing. Finally, he has a mature faith and serves his Lord with all the zeal he possibly can. He does so quietly but that holy fire is unmistakable. However, he is not very good at discerning the motives of other people.
Profession: Sal Kadian officer, artist, future cleric
Alignment: Definitely a good guy.
Weapons: Teglon carries a claymore with him that serves as his primary weapon, although he keeps it peace-bonded while in Phelatia because it is quite useless in narrow spaces. He also has a couple of smaller blades that are somewhat concealed but always close at hand.
Abilities: Teglon is a master swordsman, although he places much greater value on his artistic abilities and his surprisingly broad knowledge of Scripture. He also has an eidetic memory, which is a burden as much as it is a blessing-- he cannot forget things even if he tries. Although tactically adept, he is not very wise to the ways of people.
Fighting Style: Primarily defensive, because Teglon doesn't like killing unless he has to, but when he does go offensive he is stunningly direct about it-- his endurance also helps him a lot.
Background: Teglon came from a family that has produced multiple Clerics-- by and large the Mersedises are a devout bunch and serve as an example to other Sal Kadeins of what faith can do. Teglon mainly took after his father in following the path of the sword, but he inherited most other aspects of his character from his mother: her artistry, her interest in all things related to religion and her almost boundless patience. While training with his father he also drew and did religious studies, since that was a major part of his family background, and of course he was close friends with the Tyferras family. When Mikel came into the picture he was at first unsure what to make of the young mana wielder, but rapidly grew to like him.
His life changed for good when he met Isliel Talora, a Healer and Intelligence member about two years younger than him. The woman seemed to have a faith in the Lord that was as deep as his own, and she had a kind heart and a great personality. The two became fast friends, and soon fell in love with each other. Mikel had given Teglon a few pointed warnings about Isliel, but Teglon had shrugged it off as him being weird. Finally, after about seven years of friendship they got engaged-- however, during a long-term mission a series of unfortunate events occurred, leaving him and Perian Intelligence officer Kelton as the only two who returned out of a team of seven. Isliel was one of the five who disappeared.
Teglon still hasn't quite gotten over it... but just when he has summoned the courage to move forward and into the clergy as he feels compelled to, Isliel has mysteriously appeared again. Shocked to the core, Teglon has no idea what to do. He badly wants to pick up where they left off, as if nothing ever happened, but something-- either subconscious fear of losing her again, lingering shock, or some other kind of inhibition-- prevents him from doing so. Is this, perhaps, some kind of test?
Miscellaneous: Being 14 years older than Mikel and 12 years older than Quennith, he regards the two as (much) younger siblings. He has lately become tired of the path of the sword and has felt a strong compulsion towards the clergy-- the discovery of the lost texts marked a symbolic sort of turning point in his life.
Quirks: Teglon is constantly sketching when there is nothing else for his hands to do, and can sometimes produce a dozen good sketches in a day. He also tries to spend at least an hour daily in prayer.
Objectives: Seek the Lord's will for where to go next in his life, especially direction with regards to the clergy, and hopefully get back together with Isliel. He recognizes that circumstances may prohibit the latter, although it is a painful realization.
