  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Christmas Midnight Mass (which begins one minute after 11:59 p.m. on Christmas Eve, December 24th) is broadcast from St. Peter's Square (presided by Pope John Paul II) on EWTN.
That's 5:00 p.m. December 24th for those of us in the Central Time Zone.

At 9:30 p.m. (Central Time Zone) the Christmas Midnight Mass will be on EWTN, from the Basilica OF The National Shrine Of The Immaculate Conception, in Washington D.C..

Here's the EWTN TV schedule for the USA.

It's a beautiful mass, a high mass (incense), lots of singing. You can fulfill the obligation that way, but more importantly it's just a fun thing to do, to show you are so excited for Christmas that you can't wait until the morning service (much like New Year's). I'll be attending the Christmas liturgy at my parish at 7:30, then the midnight mass with my inlaws a few hours later.

So, for example, there will be a Mass at midnight Christmas Eve Night/Christmas Day morning?

Right.

And very likely there will be Midnight Mass at St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans.
Is the Catholic telvision station in New Orleans broadcasting that Mass?

Catholic TV station of new Orleans... I didn't know there was one. Oh, ya mean PBS maybe. it shows Catholic shows at times, but I don't know if the whole station is Catholic...

No, not the PBS station.

I haven't lived in New Orleans for some years, so I don't recall the call letters and number on the tv dial. Channel 32?

(Channel 8 was the ABC affiliate and 26 was the Fox station... then they switched numbers with each other, which freaks me out when I see Bob Breck on ABC 26, when I visit down.)

EDIT TO ADD:

I did some websearching.

WLAE-32 is the station that I thought was a Catholic station.

Archbiship Phillip Hannan of New Orleans had a huge part in beginning the station, which was on Catholic property originally. ( Now it is somewhere on Causeway Blvd in Metairie!! :( )

But, it appears to be a public broadcast "ho-hum boring" station, from what I see on the official site. http://www.pbs.org/wlae/

Do they have the same announcers as NBC does?

I wish they could subtitle it or something instead of talking over the whole Mass. Just because it's in Latin doesn't mean some of us don't understand it. :)

The ABC station here has midnight Mass from the local cathedral, celebrated by the archbishop.

At Easter, the Vigil Mass is often earlier in the evening on Holy Saturday, often around 7 or 8. The full liturgy can be 3 to 4 hours long, depending on how many of the readings are done and how many people are baptised and confirmed.

my church has a regular Mass called midnight mass at 10 pm... :p
Mine too. Makes that old joke about someone calling up the rectory to find out what time midnight mass is held seem not so funny anymore.
