I'm brand new to Christian Forum....I hope this is the right place to post poetry...(Looks like it!) I write a lot of narrative verse...so before you
read one of mine, you might want to wait until you have more than 2 minutes, a nice cold drink and time to kill!! This is an old one I wrote years ago, but still one of my favorites!! Feel free to comment! Hopefully I'll get to know the 'regulars' really
soon! MICHAEL'S QUESTION
I wonder what they think in Heaven
About the way we fight and fuss
Do the angels scratch their halos
As they sit and laugh at us?
Maybe Michael is in charge
It's his job to take the notes
I can see him as he shakes his head
And re-reads what he wrote...
He straightens up and stretches
Then he strides across the floor
Raising clouds of angel dust
As he goes sailing out the door
Through the golden rooms of Heaven
He floats down mirrored halls
Sees the Master's door ajar
And taps gently on the wall
"Lord, I hate to bother You...
But things are heating up down there"
God the Father shakes His head
Saying, "Michael, take a chair"
The angels slumps down wearily
Notebook in his hands
"All those foolish souls below
Are more than I can stand!
You'd think that they could get along
And share that planet Earth
But the way they argue all the time
They're more trouble than they're worth!"
Gently patting Michael's arm
The Lord then softly sighed,
"When dealing with human beings
You must let patience be your guide!
Heaven knows that I have tried
With these stubborn, mortal men
But as soon as one fight settles down
They start up yet again!
I even sent My own Son down
To teach them how to live
I was sure His death and resurrection
Would help them learn how to forgive!"
Michael looked up angrily
At the sadness in God's eyes
"Some don't believe that story, Lord
They think it's all a pack of lies!
I just don't know how You do it ...
Their ingratitude breaks my heart
Can't they see how much You love them?
That You have right from the start?
How can they be so selfish
They know sin just brings You grief
They should be grateful You haven't wiped them out"
Michael cried, in disbelief!!
"Calm down, be seated," said the Lord
In a kind and gentle voice,
"I created them in My image,
I wanted them to have a choice.
And I want love from My children
Like any Father would...
I'd love to see them get along
And live the way they should.
But those decisions can't be forced
They must happen on their own
And those who fail to decide
Face eternity all alone"
And then the Lord's face brightened
With a soft and glowing light,
"There are those on earth who know Me
And they are precious in My sight.
They look to Me for every need
We talk each day in prayer
They trust that they spend every minute
Wrapped safely in My care"
The angel looked up in frustration,
"Can't they convince the unbelievers?"
The Lord said, "Not as long as others choose
To follow the great deceiver..."
Then the Lord said, "Michael,
Down there they're on their own
All you can do is record their progress
And welcome the faithful home..."
Then the angel shook his head
And bowed low in his chair
Saying, "No one down there really knows
How much You truly care!"
And then the Lord smiled once again
"Oh there are some who know
It's there in all they say and do
Every single day, it shows!
Their souls shine like a beacon
Through loss and pain and strife
Guiding them and all who know them
Down the road to eternal life!
And when those glowing souls of light
Reach Heaven's holy hall
They'll find they're not only welcome
But the most honored of them all!"
