What do you think of this? - the US like us Brits had a bit of a pop/rock machine going in the 1980s churning out the radio hits (eg. Diane Warren and others were frequently reponsible for some of the lyrics we heard pumping over the airwaves in the 1980s) - and this was one of my first 'secular' pop albums that I bought myself around this time, the other was dare I admit it - a Chris DeBurgh Hits Album - now in the UK at least it became a bit uncool to still like Mr DeBurgh in new millenium - but he still has his ardent fans - but there is only a few of his songs for me stand the test of time.

Anyway back to Mr Bolton - him of the long hair - he seemed to break into the UK pop scene about (1989) but I don't think any of his singles from Soul Provider made it to No.1 - correct me if I am wrong. Britpop was quite sophisticated and somewhat cynical by that time. American inroads into the british scene often expressed an emotionality some people at times probably were never all that comfortable with - if Grannies liked Mr Bolton, same grannies a generation before would have smacked us with wooden spoon - haha - never did me any harm, unlike...Ahem...but maybe I OD'd on Mr Bolton - I think now he might have been toxic in high doses.

So is this a timeless pop classic or a 80's cookie cutter pop song that's had its day? But listening to this album now I find the sentiments on several songs rather icky - funny how we got fed this stuff over the airwaves day in day ouy - and for many of us before we ever had been in a serious relationship. Bound to affect one ?
