• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

The master also said that there are no facts, only interpretations of facts. He severely doubted, almost certainly justifiably so, the Kantian concept of the thing-in-itself. This is what he's attacking in speaking of truth as an illusion.

It may seem to be true, but that's just an illusion. ;)

Nietzsche would most likely agree. For him "illusion" doesn't necessarily mean false.

Meh. What about it being illusions? If anyone takes the time to look it up, you'll find illusions can't be truth. Unless the dictionary is in itself an illusion, lol. And according to that philosopher-type guy, I guess it would be.

1.something that deceives by producing a false or misleading impression of reality.
2.the state or condition of being deceived; misapprehension.
3.an instance of being deceived.
4.Psychology. a perception, as of visual stimuli (optical illusion), that represents what is perceived in a way different from the way it is in reality.
5.Obsolete. the act of deceiving; deception; delusion.

So we must ask ourselves. If truth is an illusion, is reality also an illusion? If so, what is reality? We perceive reality based on a number of truths, i.e. the sky is blue, we fall because of gravity, etc. So next time you get on your computer, think. Is that a keyboard, or an illusion of a keyboard?

What you say NavyGuy is both correct and incorrect. Nietzche is I believe saying that humanity can only see things through human and imperfect eyes. He's not saying that what we see is false necessarily, only that it is seen through a colored lens.

That whole "the universe is an illusion" is just one load of bs.
