  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have been looking for some new music to try out, could you guys help me find some new metal to listen to?

Is there a hard power metal band? I mean I've heard Iced Eath, Blind Guardian, Hammerfall, Grave Digger, Firewind, etcetcetc but the hardest ive heard is Outworld, and Symphony X, and those arent very heavy, and all have clean vocals....I guess what I'm getting at is I want something hard(maybe some death vocals along with clean), but also very epic and symphhonic sounding.

Also any other metal suggestions youd like to make, go ahead....I have been enjoying Opeth, Scar Symmetry, and Arch Enemy as of late...

I guess you haven't seen this, but there is a huge uprising of christian metal bands. In fact, a lot of the top metal bands are christian bands. The idea that metal bands are angry is a myth. Most lyrics are more like these from a christian band named extol:

There is a fire to light a sleeping heart
A wish to see the spirit take control

Crush the chains that hold you down
And let yourself be filled with fire
Wake up and realize the dream you've lived
Was set up by the liar

A broken heart, a kneeling soul
The spirit will set you on fire
To give you strength to reach the ones
Who search the truth with a deep desire

Crucifixion of the ego
Death and burial of the old

Crush the chains that hold you down
And let yourself be filled with fire
A broken heart, a kneeling soul
The spirit will set you on fire

There is no spiritual authority
Outside obedience to God

A broken heart is needed to reach this state
Divine encounter with the living God

I can respect that you don't like this style of music, but it would be untruthful to say that it is all evil. Further more, I think you are approaching metal music from the wrong direction. You are used to listening to music that is 90% focused on the vocals/lyrics, but metal is 90% focused the instruments. The vocals are really secondary when it comes to death metal type vocals. So, what you are doing is basically closing out the instruments, and listening to the vocals. I really think it may be a matter of how you where 'taught' to listen to music. Trust me, I wouldn't like metal either if I was focusing on the vocals, and very few people who like metal are going to like rap because they focus on the instruments. I could be wrong, but I think this is big part to the reason many people don't like metal. Whatever though. I just wanted to express my thoughts.

lol dude you've got it all wrong....have you heard eminem's song "Renegade" doesn't eminem also bash God??? and a lot of Nas and Eminem lyrics are about sin, so don't just go bashing metal, there is also bad stuff in rap.

also for the record, I do love a lot of eminem songs, but I like metal as well.

Check out these lyrics:
Artist: Becoming The Archetype
Album: The Physics Of Fire
Song: The Balance Of Eternity
They stood just inside the walls of the fortress
And looked out upon an endless sea of ice
At first the only sound was of burning torches
But another sound was rising
That of thousands of souls groaning in bitter agony
Trapped just below the surface and awakened by the presence of fire
The sound of the souls crying out for rebirth continued to grow
It became deafening and caused all of the men there
To fall on their knees
They drove their torches into the ground and watched as the ice began to melt away
The enemy’s grasp was broken by the power of fire
And a great multitude of souls were reclaimed from the ice
But there were many others that did not respond
To the presence of fire
They remained frozen
Enslaved in darkness Forever

Epilogue (6:55)When the mountains crumble into the sea
When the stars fall from the heavens and scorch the earth
Then every knee will bow before the flame
And every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord
Forever

Divine fire is a christian power metal band with singing, death vox, and amazing solos. You should check them out.

Are you sure they are christian? usually christians don't use the f word in thier songs, but I'm not saying that doesn't make them christians...

also why do all of thier songs sound like they were recorded in a gurage...other than that, they sound cool :)

Cradle of Filth, Dark Tranquility, Dimmu Borgir, Eluveitie ('Spirit' album, great Folk metal ), Korpiklaani, and Finntroll.
Cradle of filth might be a bit harder than the rest, but it's good stuff.

I'd say symphonic/deathcore/viking/progressive with a little doom metal, but yeah, some of it does remind me of virgin black a little :) .

That's showbiz for you. ;p
But seriously, Folk Metal is the way to go. It has happier tunes, it can lift your mood, and it makes you want to run through the woods swinging an axe. :amen:

Dimmu is gay. Their first two albums, For All Tid and Stormblast (not the rerecorded version), were great, then they sold out to the black nail polish wearing mallgoth masses. And regarding Cradle, Dimmu is having a ball somewhere because a band sold out more than they did.

The rest of those bands are great though.

If you like Nevermore you should check out Communic.

If you like slightly folky stuff with some Black Metal influences I'd recommend Primordial.
No fiddles or flutes here, just some irish sounding melodies, check out their myspace.

You can always go to last.fm, search for a band you like and browse the list of related artists btw.

edit: just realised this thread is rather old

I assume you're refering to my old Satanic Warmaster avatar. I can assure you, Werewolf isfar more serious about his Satanism than Cradle or Dimmu, neither of whom are actually satanic.

If you listen to Cradle and Dimmu, you'll hear that they switched to pristine production, and choose to let the guitars chug mindlessly in the background while the keyboardist does some cheesy homosexual vampire sounding melody over it. SW forgoes studio quality recording in favor of creating a dark, oppresive atmosphere.

Dummy Burger (This is seriously one of the gayer videos I've seen):

Satanic Warmaster:

As you can tell, SW is serious about his art, whereas DB are more interested in pleasing the Hot Topic kids.
