  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Can anyone recommend some good Messianic music groups and/or albums?

TIA,
Jill
Jill, there have been a couple of threads I think, so a search of this forum could be helpful. Also, I have some links and recommendations I'll come back and place here later on :)

That is my favorite CD!!!!!!!
I love it and have introduced my water aerobics class to it! HA! Figured a little praise music might lead into some questions.
I also like the Klezmer Nuthouse CD. Cannot think of the guy who is on it though.

This isn't praise music but - has any one heard the schlock rock with the song "It's got to be Rashi" to the tune of "Everyone knows its windy". If you haven't it is worth it for that song alone. Another line in it is "and Rashi has concise notes".

Maybe it is just me, I LOL....
This is not praise music either but it WILL lighten your spirit!! If you are over 30 or really know music The Schleps have an album you HAVE to have!!! Just don't drink something, anything, and listen to this at the same time!!!

They have cuts with titles like:

I fought the L-rd (I fought the law and the law won)
Pepperoni on your Pizza (Lipstick on your collar)
Be A Jew Abe (I got you babe)
Sealed with a Bris (Sealed with a kiss)
Listen to samples here - it's a gass!!!

Okay, I found my links.

You can listen to Messianic praise and worship online here:

http://radio.heartofisrael.org/

And here

http://www.netivyah.org.il/English%20Web/Kol%20HaYeshuah%20-%20Listen.html

Scroll down and select the online radio station with the visual playlist -- then the Live365 Player window will show you the name of the artist, song title, and album it's from as it is playing each song, so you can get a feel for what/who you like and don't :) Also, if you sign up/are a member with Live365, then you can bounce between those stations (and others) easily and also keep a "wishlist" of the songs you like, come back later and see what it was you liked well enough to buy. It was helpful to me when I was new to messianic P/W music.

My favorite artists are Barry and Batya Segal -- their music is tops. Of their CD's, I own Go Through the Gates and Sh'ma Yisrael. I also love Marty Goetz' music... Sanctuary and He Is My Defense are both excellent, as is pretty much anything else I have ever heard from him. I also have Steve McConnell's We Delight, and it is a fav of mine as well. Believe me, I'll be buying more of all of these artists' music.

Paul Wilbur is good, as GEL mentioned, and he has a few CD's out. Johnathan Settel has some good stuff. Ted Pearce's song Zealous Over Zion is fabulous (well I like the eastern flavor), actually I like most anything by Ted Pearce Project. Karen Davis -- usually very good. And I really like Sarah Lieberman's voice. A lot of people really like Lamb/Joel Chernoff. There are some really nice various-artist compilations out there too... I have this one http://www.christianbook.com/Christian/Books/product/156205168?item_no=CD3472&netp_id=114122&event=EFIN

and notice you can listen to the song clips before you buy :)

and looky here :) a nice listing of music at CBD:

I've also ordered from:

I would have to second this (even though I'm not over 30 yet. ;) ) My kids also love it, but then they've heard 'oldies' all their lives. My daughter and son actually did "Pepperoni on your Pizza" for their school talent show and everyone thought it was hilarious. My son couldn't get enough of "Sealed with a Bris", in the days leading up to his own brit milah last week.

Just some clarification, Zemer Lavav is actually a recording group not a single artist. The group is made up of the whole Hahn family whom I am acquainted with, in fact they are staying with some friends of mine and will be performing at my synagogue soon. The Parents are accompanied by four of their five most beautiful daughters, each with their own talents, be it singing or playing one of a myriad of hand made instruments made by their father. The mother, Shimrit, plays a beautiful floor harp that her husband Mark made her for her birthday. Combine that with the most beautiful violin that I have ever heard from a 5th generation violin player and maker, Les Morrison ( who has played with the esteemed Yizak Perlman) and you have truely inspired heavenly music. This you should definately get and I guarantee you will be blessed by it! It is a favorite that I choose time and time again as our Shabbat Dinner music. There is no other sound like theirs out there!
Their CD is titled L'Rosh Pina , which means

One of the songs on there called "May you shine" was written by Shimrit ( as most of the songs are) as a Shabbat blessing for her five daugthers and it is a gem!

They have a website here www.zemerlevav.com :)

I just checked and their website is down for some reason but you can look at a cached version from google here http://216.239.41.104/search?q=cache:Zu5PMe0UcCYJ:www.zemerlevav.net/+&hl=en

You can hear a sample of their music here http://www.zemerlevav.org/cd.html #2 Awake Harp and Lyre is fantastic, take a listen! Many of the songs have a wonderful blend of English and Hebrew, and her voice is just heavenly. If you have any problem getting the player to work let me know. Don't miss the first on the list, Even Ma'asu, the stone that the builders rejected, from Isaiah 53. You can hear some of Shimrit's beautiful harp playing in this one. It is truly beautiful and a blessing to the L-RD!

Did I tell you that I love this group? :)

Also Jonathan Settel has a new short video/DVD out called Messiah, and It is truely fantastic. It shows Y'shua from the time of the angel visiting Mariam ( at Chanukah) until his resurection, in totally Jewish heritage. You can take a look and a listen here. https://wx10.registeredsite.com/user890284/indexsecure.asp

Try clicking here Messiah DVD - view teaser trailers of all features
you will see more if you click on "Amen" notice the sukkah where he was born. You will see the woman that had the bleeding disease grab hold of his tzitzit in "Messiah" and hear Jonathans testimony in behind the scenes. Enjoy!

A desire to remove Anti-Semitism from the church is his main cause.
