A hot topic recently is whether the church in America is simply just educating people about JESUS or leading them into a relationship with HIM...It seems all Christians know alot about HIM, but few too many actually have a fullfilling relationship with HIM. It is kinda like this, we all know who Micheal Jordan is. We can tell somone alot about MJ, his stats, how great of player he is, what he did in such-n-such game against a team, how many commercials he has done, where he went to HS and college, that his dad was murdered, he has won 6 NBA titles, etc, etc..But there are VERY FEW people who actually know him as a person...
This got me to thinking about the Bible. Many of us have tirelessly memorized scripture after scripture. We can quote from the Bible when needed and we know all the stories from old testament to new testament. Now the Bible is our guideline on how to live our lives. It is also full of promises for us. The analogy I am going to use is a menu. Say you have a favorite resturant you visit several times a week. After a while you will get to know the menu pretty well. But just knowing the menu doesn't get you what you go to the restuarant to get. You have to order off the menu. It is the same way with Christianity. We often know the Bible inside and out, but we neglect to eat from it.
The Bible tells us "the Word became Flesh", so the Bible is more than just words written down in a book. The Word is alive!!!. You probly wouldn't be very sastified if you went to a resturant in the mood for a roast beef platter and tore off the corner of the menu that list roast beef and ate it would you?? So we are never truly sastified spiritually if we just simply study the Bible without also partaking in what it says we can have, and vice versa if do what it says we shouldn't do we will NOT have what is promised to us. Anyway just a random thought on studying the Bible.
