Memories in the Trash

...I just went through a whole bunch of old photos and letters from different people from my "old" life (when I was a non-believer), a life I'm trying to move on from. It was hard for me to do, but I was able to get it all in a bag anyways. I mean there were some good things, but for the most part it was all bad. I guess what I'm trying to ask is if it was a good idea to just get rid of that kind of stuff? Has anyone else done that? I'm just affraid I will get rid of these memories and I will regret it someday. I guess I've been kind of a junk monkey, there was stuff in there I should have never saved to begin with. So tell me what you think guys, I'd appreciate it. Thanks! God bless.

How do you mean "old" life? Before you became a believer?

What I believe is most important is the reason why you went through all "the old stuff." Was it because it was taking a lot of space? Or was it just something that you should've done long ago? Or was it because it reminded you of unpleasant things?

If it was just for practical reasons or something that you've been putting off for a while, I don't think it matters whether you kept it or not. I mean, sure, you might miss not having one of those photos somewhere down along the line, but it probably won't be a big deal. However, if you did this because you have unresolved issues in your past, like a traumatic childhood, I don't think throwing it all away will fix things.

Look at your motives for doing this. What matters is what is inside of you. The things that you threw away, they are just that, things.

...yeh it was just things from my past, a bunch of stuff in shoe boxes. I've been having trouble moving on and getting over my daughters mother, and just the years I spent with her. There is a bunch of old party pictures of people that have no real significance in my life, no real true friends ya know, I'd just hate to get rid of it and regret it later. Yeah the original thread post was confusing sorry.

I'm sorry to hear about your break up with your child's mother. If you feel uncomfortable keeping the stuff, or if you spend a lot of time thinking about what you had and looking at the pictures, just move them somewhere so that you can't easily get to them. That way you won't be bothered by them, and if you need them in the future they will still be there.

I wish you the best in your efforts to get on with your life. Remember that clinging to the past can destroy one's future. May God guide you and comfort you.

Another idea would be to dig the stuff out of the trash and send it to somebody who might find it interesting. You may not care about the stuff anymore, but your daughter's mother might be. Perhaps some of the friends from the parties might like them.

That way, if you ever rethink things and regret giving them away, you could ask for them back.

Its a good thing, bad memories add nothing but misery to your life, the only thing you should take with you is that you should never be involved with things that create a bad life for you,therefore trashing those memories is a good thing, away with the bad in with the good.
