  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What were some of the most memorable Christmas gifts you received as a child?

I remember getting a Cabbage Patch Doll that first year they came out (when the ladies were fist fighting over them in the aisles and mauling the delivery truck drivers...ahhh, good times). Her name was Susie Dotie (don't ask me who came up with the name "Dotie" ).

And I remember getting a Speak and Spell one year...I LOVED that game.

And then I remember getting the coolest leather jacket one year...it was really soft leather...sort of a short jacket with a hood. It was awesome.

What about you guys? What were your most memorable childhood presents?

One year 2 older sisters took me out shopping for Christmas. I had no money to spend, so I just followed them around. We were gone a long time and on the way home we had to keep stopping at odd places like the Quick-ee Mart, Fleet Farm, gas station, etc... I found out when we go home why they were stalling so long. When I walked in the door there in the living room was a brand spankin' new piano for Christmas! That was the best Christmas present ever!

My favorite Christmas present was the year I received everything Barbie. I got the Barbie convertable and the Barbie Camper and the Barbie Townhouse and tons of high fashioned outfits. I was so thrilled. My mom even found an old lady who handmade Barbie doll clothes and she made me these big beautiful ball gowns.

The sad news is that summer we experienced a flood and I lost all of my Barbie stuff. My mom replaced most of the things, but the old lady who made the ball gowns at passed away. I never did find anyone who could make Barbie Doll clothes like that lady did. :(

My most memorable gift was my Barbie townhouse, since I found it wrapped under my mom's bed with a tag saying "from Santa"!

My favorite gift of all was a doll called My Friend Mandy. I used to have a My Friend Jenny but I drew a mustache on her in marker that didn't wash off!

I also loved my Dancerella doll. You held her tiara and she spun and kicked. I loved her.

We all moved from Florida to Tennessee when I was nine.
I remember my first Christmas I was sick.
And I had a sore on my neck.
I was pretending I was flying at ten years old.
And I couldnt' enjoy my presents.
As well as had to go to the hospital and stay there for five days at least.
Until the sore on my neck was gone.
Pretty bad first Christmas.

ohhhh, the Dancerella doll! I got one of those too! I still remember it--the little white and pink tutu with the sequins and those plastic "pointe" shoes. Mine had a leg that got broken and I wasn't able to play with it anymore. But I did like that toy. Thanks, E-beth, for mentioning her and bringing back some more great Christmas toy memories! :)

I remember getting a really big doll that was taller then me. Years later, I told my mom that the doll had been my favorite present of all time, and she confided in me that she and dad had bought it used, from the goodwill store. What that taught me was that when you're little, it doesn't have to be new, it just has to be clean, from somebody that loves you, and wrapped up nice n' pretty. That doll still means a lot to me, even though I don't have it anymore. I can remember it in my mind. I wish I had kept it though, but I didn't realize at the time how special it was. :)

In 1972 I got two of my most fav toys. A Baby Chrissy doll and an Inchworm.
The Baby Chrissy doll had really long hair, it was red, in a ponytail and you pulled a string that was in her back and you could shorten her hair without cutting it.

The Inchworm was a big green hard plastic worm that had a yellow saddle on it. You would get on and smash your weight on it and then it would spring up and you actually rode it around the room. My mom has me on cassette tape that Christmas morning screamin', "An Inchworm, An Inchworm!!!!"
