I remember when I was heading from one unit to another and a woman who was in the Army with me (former SSG) told the troops there, "Your last NCO was a pu&&y and you all got away with everything, that's not going to happen when SGT Erickson shows up."
They thought they could test the waters with me.
I had a troop with this wife of his told me, "I have to bring her to all of her appointments."
"You have two cars troop, she can take one, she's not broke."
"She doesn't know the way around Sarge."
"What the ** did you just call me troop?!? Sarge? You know what a Sarge is right? I don't eat **** off the ocean floor, is that what I look like to you?!!?"
"No Sergeant, that's not what I'm..."
"Your wife troop, I saw her driving all over the damn place in Sandhausen and gave me directions how to get to the hospital, don't tell me she can't drive herself. Hooah."
She ended up getting herself to the hospital, she was fine.
*Note*Just like another NCO in here, when my troop did have to drive his wife to the hospital for her appointment at 0900, I called ahead, informed the docs (Oh you're gonna love when you get a little deeper in this) of who was coming and to call me when they left.
I get a call about 45 minutes later the doc sent this troops wife home and it's oh...1100 by this time. I'm waiting....waiting....waiting. Just so this kid could bury himself the next day.
Remember, keep documentation right?
So, my troop comes into PT the next day. I tell him, "After you get into the office, I want you to come and see me. We need to talk about something. How's your wife?"
"She's good Sargeant, thanks for asking."
This f'er thinks he's slick.
So he comes in the office and goes to his desk and logs in. "TROOP! DIDN'T YOU HEAR ME AT PT, GET IN HERE! NOW! GET AT PARADE REST AND KEEP YOUR F'ING MOUTH SHUT UNTIL I'M DONE HERE"
Doot doot doot doot doot doot doot doot.
Ring ring
"Dr. Jenkins."
"Morning Doc Jenkins, how's my Godson?"
"Good to go Sergeant Erickson."
UH HUH! NOW YOU SEE WHERE THIS IS GOING!?
Doc Jenkins and I were shooting buddies at the rod and gun club. Shot on the same team. I became his 6th kids grandson.
"So doc, yeah, can you tell me what time my troop left your office?"
"0945 Sergeant."
"Thanks Doc, I'll talk to you later."
"Roger that Sergeant."
I reached into my drawer and called in our NCOIC.
"SSG West, here you go...the documentation you requested. I told you this troop was a f off!"
And there I had him.
The fire in this kid's eyes told me he could do that with his former NCOIC, but it wasn't getting past me. He knew he was caught!
"So troop, you want to tell me [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] this is about.?"
"I...I..."
"Did I say speak? Keep your head and eyes forward."
He rolled his eyes and SSG West saw this.
"Troop, you don't roll your eyes at SGT Erickson or any NCO you come across, you understand me? Do you know the world of **** that you just walked into."
Was nice to put a company grade on him and take his rank, money, and time. Bet his wife was REALLY happy about! He compromised his integrity, honor, trust, and respect to me. I was the kind of NCO that didn't take [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] from a junior that was a POS.
I too had a female tell me "I'm going to get pregnant Sergeant Erickson, so I don't have to get deployed."
I gave her a direct order "First, we're going to have a talk with the PSSD SGM, then, all three of us are going to go to the Company Commander in about an hour and explain to him why you don't want to get deployed, but would rather not do your duty as a soldier. If you do that, you're defrauding the government. You know that contract you signed, uh huh, we can find the expiration date on that right quick."
She incriminated herself by doing that and was charged with fraud. Not good.
These two soldiers, were troublemakers, and it took a hard *** like me to get on their bad side. They continued to make the mistakes and test me. I never gave em an inch.
My happiest day was when they were issued their Chapter 14 paperwork and gone within the first six months of me being there.
