So guys I have a silly question, I was wondering whenever meditation is a good or a bad thing, more explicitly whenever it's a sin or not?

CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
Meditation, good or bad?

Without any context it's difficult to know what type of "meditation" you are talking about. Meditating on God's word or sitting still in a quiet spot meditating on God's presence can be very beneficial. On the other hand, if you're talking about meditation with the intention of blocking out everything and only focusing on yourself, then I think there's a problem having that mindset of "self without God."

I googled Christian meditation and got 4.8 million results. Meditation is more commonly associated with Eastern religions than Christianity, and so that's why you'll see so many results that show that.

Then yes it is a sin. In doing that kind of meditation (yoga) its actually very demonic and is a window to opening up a bad spiritual realm and isn't being faithful to God because it is a form of worshiping false gods in eastern religions. People dont realize how bad it really is. BUT as far as the word mediating, there is mediating on God by reading the Bible,prayer, and worship.

Meditation is a natural part of human life. In that way it's kind of like asking if worship is sinful. It could be, if you went about it the wrong way. Sometimes I like to sit down, establish a steady breathing rhythm, and repeat the Jesus Prayer (Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me a sinner.) This can be beneficial spiritually, mentally, and physically. I've learned a lot about Christian meditation from Dr. John Kleinig's videos.

Yes it is bad because it focuses you on yourself, which is the exact opposite of Christianity.

I wouldn't say that meditation is a sin. Now, meditation where you are worshipping Buddha, yes, that would be. But meditation itself isn't. I do yoga, and meditation is a big part of it. All it is really used for is to find your center, relax, and focus on your breathing. I use my meditation time to talk to the Lord because it is a quiet time.
