• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Was wondering when doctors medicate and if to get medication for causative depression and lethargy?

When does depression subside and when does a person seek help?

I left the Jehovah's Witnesses which I have been involved with all my life after I found errors and false teaching. All the time I was planning and praying I knew what would happen and it did. Coping with that has been the hard bit with so many conflicting thoughts and feelings.

I stayed at uni, and managed to get to the end of this year but as far as anything else goes, even praying or reading The Bible my energy is zero.
I am going to a church and lay very very very low and alone. I keep thinking tomorrow will come and it will change but fear my salvation as I am not obedient to Jehovah.

Is medication for depression an option when it is causative. It wont bring back losses, it wont do the thousands of hours Bible study and give me peace to know where I am is right.

I just wondered if it is an option for me

I think it depends on the person. Different ppl. respond to meds differently.

I'd say that if you feel they might help, then meds might be worth trying. Who knows, maybe you'll be fortunate enough to respond to them (I was not so lucky, but please don't let that discourage you).

God Bless,
Rosa

Depression is a tricky problem. Depression can be caused by chemical imbalance. Particular chemicles are not getting to the right part of your brain, and you feel, well you know how you feel. Depression can be casued by events in one's life. It' like the body shuts down a bit to cope with high stress or painful things and then have hard time shifting back in to normal. And depression can be casued by guilt and/or spiritual problems. Further, Satan has a great habit of kicking you when you are down, so he can take advantge of, say chemical depression and pile on.

Antidepressants are not brain candy. They do not change who you are. They can take your world from black and white back to color. They won't solve your problems or sort out you life, but they can give you the energy to do that. If you have a doctor who is suggesting that you try antidepressants, I would encourage you to do so. Keep in mind that different ones work better for some people, o if you have negetive reaction, stop taking them and talk to your doctor.

The most effective treatment for depression is a combination of drug and talk therapy, so I would strongly suggest that you look into that combination.

Christians sometimes have funny attitudes about mental health problems. They are forgetting that all healing is from God - by surgery, drugs, or the direct hand of God - it all comes from God.
