• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

A new drug which they use in the US for Bipolar with Season Effect is Topirimate. It is sold under the name Topimax. That is what I am currently taking along with a special diet.

Sorry to be so anal retentive here but in case anyone is searching for terms it would be Seasonal Affective Disorder and Topamax.

too funny Auston,

Hope you don't get dinged for it. I've been pretty blessed. I have very few side effects from my meds. Just withdrawal effects when coming off. The only one that gave me side effects was Deseryl an antiD that basically made me frigid and I was started on it 3 months after I got married. It wasn't till 3-4 years later when I came off it and 'rediscovered' my husband that I realized the med had kept me so cold. When I came off it I thought I had found the life again. We reexperienced our honeymoon Oh-la-la.

Thank you Jesus for our mates!!!:holy:

When I took depakote it puffed me up really big and caused fatty deposits on the liver. I had to be taken off of it. Then I took Gabapentin for a few years. The medicine still kept me very heavy which overtaxed my liver. I had to be titrated off of it. Now I take Topirimate. The therapy has been very successful. I am now at my normal weight.

Seems we all blush over the discussion of sexual passion between our spouses and us, yet it seems that it is what we all also dream of and seek. I am glad you have 'rediscovered' your husband. God Bless You! And your hubby!

**checks deseryl off the list of possible AD's for wife**:D ;)

Medicines can have undesirable effects. But being without them is far worse. My sister decided on her own that she didn't need medication anymore. Now she is in the hospital. They have yet to find a medicine that can restore her to a lucid state.

What I failed to mention in my earlier post is that although I had chosen to stop taking Sertraline, more commonly known as Zoloft, I was also happily on two other medications prior to taking the Zoloft. I still take the other two. In essence I have not stopped taking my meds, just the one.

The Zoloft was an attempt to deal with some anxiety issues. The other two are an anti-convulsant and an anti-depressent, which I am very happy with and have no side effects whatsoever. It was only after I tried the third, Zoloft, (sertraline) that I was attacked by its side effects. The SSRI's have never set well with me, as I had also tried Lexapro (escitalopram oxalate) with almost the same side effects. I have not stopped taking meds, just the one.

 Good Job Singing Elk!
