• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

My 7 yro has adhd and aspergers he has been on numerous medicines to treat the conditons. Right now we are on risperidone and a liquid form of clonidine. He has been on other forms of clonidine and all have fizzled out. He was put on kapvay breifly before his ped took him off to put him on the liquid form. the reason for being taken off of kapvay is because he slept 19 hours in a 24 hour period. Well the liquid form is posing almost the same problem. Do any of your children take med sfor the adhd and or aspergers that i can throw at the dr as a option. He has been on strattera and dextroamphetamine and one other one i cant quite recall. Any advice would be helpful:confused:

My son is on metadate CD and it has worked well. He would probably start off with the 20 mg dose. Ask your pediatrician about MPH as a medication to help with focus and concentration. See link for MPH here

the dr that prescribed the dextroamphetamine said that stimulants are not a good for him it makes him sooooo aggressive

It is not uncommon for Aspies to have Celiac disease as well. There is a test for it, but I think it is pretty expensive. I'd leave the meds and try a gluten-free diet. Gluten drives my son nuts after 3 days of a relatively small amount of bread and normal healthy food seems to drive the gluten out pretty quickly. Removing gluten from his diet may be all the testing you need.

Much agreed, jackmt. I found I did a LOT better without gluten and wheat, I felt a ton better. I was having a bunch of health problems (stomach, etc.) and had a bunch of testing done before I cut it out of my diet.

I was having a bad few days when I last posted here. Had I been a child, I would have likely acted out my frustrations and irritability. I have since learned to keep quiet and avoid people when I get feeling that way.

I realized the next day that I had been eating significantly more bread than usual (I have all but cut it out of my diet).

I just remembered that I take magnesium supplememts to reduce my over-reactions to stimuli. It helps a lot. I have also heard that Epsom salts baths are good as well. But Epsom salts are just magnesium. Diet ought to be the first and main thing so that you don't end up just treating symptoms with medications.
