Ash Wednesday too. I hope no one had a hamburger for lunch today.thisistheonlynamenottaken said:Ok as you know (if you have talked to me before) i am new to this whole religiong thingy, so can some one please tell me why I am not allowed to eat meat on Fridays during lent?![]()
I didn't have breakfast*, had three fig newtons for lunch. Fish-sticks and french fries will be dinner.Credo said:Had no lunch today (it's also a day of fasting)
Early this morning I scarfed down the remains of my turkey wrap from the previous night on my way to class. This being my first real Lent (wow..this season is busy! services all over the place!), I forgot that this was a meatless day. Oops...well, I'll do better now that I know for sure what to do.nyj said:I hope no one had a hamburger for lunch today.

Don't worry Catherine, it was a sincere mistake. I have done this countless times before. What I have started doing though, as my way of "making up for it" (not that that is necessary) is to abstain the following day.cbrickell said:Early this morning I scarfed down the remains of my turkey wrap from the previous night on my way to class. In my opinion, this is the significance of abstaining from meat, not only during Lent but throughout the entire year. If we will take the time to make a sincere sacrifice such as this, it helps to train us to make better decisions in our personal and spiritual lives. By making this small gesture in giving up the small things, it will help us to say no to those bigger things that could possibly lead us away from God.Mulutka said:Last Friday I was reading about the significance of meatless Fridays while I was eating a ham sandwich. And I continually do this too (by accident of course). So I think I'm going to have to prepare all of my meals for Friday the day before, as to not run the risk of messing up again. This is harder than I thought.!

..but not tofu. Eating tofu is a penance in itself.

When I was vegan, that was my favourite food. I used to marinate it for hours first though.Rosa Mystica said:Hahahaha!!!Mind you, Cat, it's not penance if prepared properly. Have you ever tried fried tofu in a stir fry? It's delicious!
