House Speaker Kevin McCarthy confirmed late Monday that he will make good on his pre-midterm pledge to remove three high-profile Democrats — Reps. Adam Schiff, Eric Swalwell and Ilhan Omar — from their House committees. Schiff and Swalwell, both from California, would be removed from the House Intelligence Committee while Minnesota’s Omar would be kicked off the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
Schiff lied to the American public for two and a half years.
Swalwell cannot get a security clearance
Omar has a history of saying anti Semitic statements.

“The Democrats have created a new thing where they’re picking and choosing who could be on committee,” McCarthy said last January. “Never in the history [of Congress] have you had the majority tell the minority who could be on committee, but this new standard, which these Democrats have voted for — if Eric Swalwell cannot get a security clearance in the private sector, there’s no reason why he should be given one to be on Intel or Homeland Security.”
We will see who complains about the Republicans doing the exact same thing now that they are in power.

The Swalwell thing frustrates me because of two things.

1) There is no actual indication that he would be denied a security clearance if he underwent the normal process. All we have is the unsupported word of Speaker McCarthy, who has no law enforcement or intelligence experience, either directly or indirectly through membership of one of those committees. Nobody has been able to show why Swalwell supposedly wouldn't have been able to get one.

2) Second and most fundamentally, nobody in Congress has a security clearance. It's assumed they are trustworthy by basis of their elected office. It's also not like only members of certain committees are going to be accessing classified information. And honestly, with how often scandals break out in Congress, I would be shocked if more than half the members would qualify for a security clerance.

You make a good point. I think McCarthy is looking for reasons to remove them. I don't actually remember what the Democrats said when they removed the republicans. But bottom line is they did.

McCarthy's reason for removing Stalwell may be flimsy, but bottom line is the Democrats set the precedent despite their claims that they want inclusion. They set the precedent for exclusion and divisiveness.

Now they are paying for it. I don't honestly know what to do about it anymore. We have become so politically polarized.

Gosar posted a animated video of him decapitating AOC and MTG was excluded because of a bunch of statements she had made before she was elected, including the famous conspiracy theory that the California wildfires were set off by a Jewish Space Laser. For what it's worth I don't think she should have been removed for something she did before she got elected. But the vote that removed her from her committee assignments also included 11 Republicans, which was about 5% of the GOP Caucus. So it was a bipartisan vote, if barely. This is not the same thing.

Thanks for that. The precedent was set and that's that. Democrats started it, set it and now are paying for it. Should've left well enough alone.

Yeah, nothing should be done to a congressman who promotes violence and hatred of another member. Decapitation is not big deal.
MTG also mocked a victim of the Parkland shooting and suggested school shootings were staged during her campaign.. (Good reason no to have her on the Education Committee). Alex Jones is learning the hard way that mocking the victims of a school shooting is not ok.

McCarthy is just doing it for purely revenge reasons to keep those two on his side.

Oh good grief, you need to go back to the threads on this cartoon topic. There's no reason to detail this thread by hashing out the arguments again.

Democrats started it. They set the precedent and now they have to live by it. That's how it works. You don't like what someone says and so you boot them off. Well turn about fair play.
