• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Maybe this might help some of you... God have mercy on us

I suffer from severe treatment resistant depression. Being a christian I often find myself asking why God, why wont you heal me. Well, this video has helped me somewhat and just thought I would share it with you all. God bless us and have mercy on us.

That is very sensible to point out how Jesus being crucified was God's will, though evil people did that to Jesus. It was His will, meaning God would use the crucifixion of Jesus for God's all-loving purpose.

And, possibly like this, the lady's paralysis might not have been what God wanted for her; possibly, it was caused by some sort of wrong thing, including not being careful. And yes He is powerful and all-controlling so He could have stopped it from happening. But now He is able to use her tragedy for much good.

This is what I now understand can be part of the meaning of 1 Thessalonians 5:21 >

"Test all things; hold fast what is good." (1 Thessalonians 5:21)

This, I now see, does not only mean to judge between good and evil things, and between people we can trust and ones we should not trust. But it means to test every thing for the good which God can do with us.

So, in the case of depression, we can use our pain and trouble to help us feel for others. And if we get how God changes us out of the depression, now we can minister however God has changed us, to other people.

God is almighty; He can easily handle any scary painful impossible shameful stuff in us. He can easily and breezily and beautifully make it go away, but also bring us into how He has us being and loving in Jesus.

So, whatever has failed is what does not work. I think I have seen how people even boast how they have tried. But that could be not humble, and could mean the person was trying on one's own. But it can take time for God to change our character; so I still have stuff which does not go away; but as I become more gentle and humble and quiet, now I have more natural immunity growing against cruel stuff in me.

And why would we try with our own effort? Possibly, we want to live the lives we choose; maybe we want to have control of our own lives; and so we do not really and truly give ourselves, all the way, to God. Because if we surrender and submit to God, then our own lives are over. And my depression could be about not having things and people which I want in my life. With God, we get into all-loving, not with favoritism for only certain love idols. And our motive needs to be to please God, not only to get rid of problems which get in the way of our doing what we please :)
