  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How do I not worry about tomorrow when trying to save to pay the mortgage...

Or when planning a vacation.... Something like a cruise needs to be paid well in advance.. while trying to save for the trip, I find that I may not be able to afford it... Do I continue to try to save or do I say to myself " maybe it's not in Gods will for us to go"

This passages totally confuses me... Help! :groupray:

I think that it is OK to prepare for the future, and even plan for it. There are a lot of forward-looking passages, even in the New Testament. (As one example, Paul tells us to save up our tithes and offerings during the week, and to give them to the Church on Sunday.)

But we should always be aware that we are not promised prosperity; we are not even promised that we will be alive in the body tomorrow. We should not be so tied up in future plans that we forget to live today. Neither should we count on material things hoarded for the future to justify our lives or to be the main source of our happiness, because it is so easy to lose them.

One way to look at saving is to consider what Jesus said about give unto Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's. Most people couldn't pay their Roman taxes with out a lot of planning. Farmers had to plan ahead to have seed to sow to raise crops. So it would appear that Jesus wasn't talking about that.

Some people worry, have cares about things that they can't change, yet they worry and worry about them. That's what I think Jesus was talking about.

I decided to quote the verse for reference:

"Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Let the day's own trouble be sufficient for the day.
(Matthew 6:34 RSV-CE)

I think basically that Jesus is telling us not to worry about what will happen tomorrow since we have no control over what happens to us tomorrow. I think He is basically telling us to trust tomorrow to Him.

I agree totally, but I would like to add Luke 12:34. I also agree that you should plan for the future, but with a kingdom minded attitude.

This is easy, use the cruise money to pay for the mortgage...God would rather you pay your bills than spend it having fun.

Not to be harsh, but maybe relook at your priorities.

The 12-Step programs reframe this point thusly: "One day at a time." You can only deal with today. You can't do anything about tomorrow until tomorrow gets here, though you can impact it today for good or for evil by making right or wrong choices. Worrying about that, or anything else, isn't productive. Plan the best you can, do the most you can, and live with the consequences.

the verse does not say "forget about tomorrow" but instead "do not worry about tomorrow" You can still plan for things to come without the need to worry about them, in fact I would think if you did not plan for them it would cause worry. The point of the passage is that all things come from God and if you look to him and put your trust in him then you don't have to worry about what tomorrow is going to unfold but this doesn't mean to become lazy and just let whatever is going to happen, happen. There are also far more important things in life than mortgages and cruises and something things are thrown our way that we cannot plan for. However through it all we are to look to Christ and along side of that surrender our worry. You can still plan for tomorrow but worrying about it is a completely different thing.
