Matthew 5 is a chapter I am going to try and read everyday. It is the first teachings of Jesus and reminds us everyday we wake, how much work we have to do to obey the last verse.
48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
This chapter is all about how to live on earth and follow Jesus.
The Lord has taught me to use no other Book than the Bible and Him when I have a question, so I use the Bible as my dictionary. I go back and search how God used a word if I have a question. To read this chapter and take the world out of it creates a whole new meaning. To read this chapter and take ourselves out of it and what we get, makes it have a whole new meaning , everything is about God.
Verse 12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in Heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
Reward in Heaven, mind set changes this chapter. I have been taught different things about this chapter , but our lives are not about us. Jesus came to do His father's will that we may hear “Good and faithful servant.” It is not about what we get but Who we get...
Poor in Spirit can be confusing as we are to be full of the Holy Spirit . To be poor of any spirit that is not of God , is what we long to be.
Psalm 32:2 Blessed is the man unto whom the Lord imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.
To mourn for anything that breaks God's heart is different than worldly mourning. I never understood this completely until I come to really know God.
Ecclesiastes 7:4 The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning; but the heart of fools is in the house of mirth.
King David mourned for his sin against God unlike many... They use to mourn for their sins not so sure we do anymore.
To understand how to be meek is to know all about Moses.
Numbers 12:3 Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.
To hunger and thirst after righteousness is to know the story of Abraham.
Genesis 15:6 And he believed in the Lord ; and he counted it to him for righteousness.
To know what is not righteous can be found in Sodom.
Genesis 18:26
And the Lord said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes.
I will stop here but if you have not read chapter 5 taking self out , taking the world out and only reading understanding what happens in Heaven and striving to be like Jesus , try it...
Every Word of God we long to live by...To know who God loved and used in Scriptures , to know what God loves and hates , is what Chapter 5 is about.
