You missed more than that one, il. The Revelation of Jesus Christ is loaded with symbolism.
I just found one small passage. It is also filled with many things literal. Some want to symbolize it all. They end up with nonsense - like it is all history.
Is this literal?
"And I [John] stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy." -- Rev 13:1Is that really a seven-headed beast that rises up out of the sea? How about this one?
"And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great." -- Rev 16:21
Are those really 100 pound balls of ice? How about this one?
"The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up." -- Rev 8:7
Is a third of the trees, and all green grass, world-wide, really going to be burnt up? What would the grazing animals eat? Where would the people get their oxygen supply.
I don't believe you have really thought this through, nor your teachers.
What can happen literally will.
Rev 13:1 is obviously allegorical, the beast refers to the Anti-Christ and the sea is peoples or nations.
Rev 16:21 says 'stones'. These will be meteorites.
Rev 8:7 is talking about the holy Land area, NOT worldwide, as you try to make it.
Yeah, never mind that the same description of hail mixed with fire is described in Exodus 9, where the source was heaven, not catapults, etc. John was somehow unfamilar with Roman catapults. Yeah, ok...

What would the grazing animals eat? REally? Did you not study Joel 1 where he talks of the Day of the Lord? He tells us that the cattle are perplexed because they have no pasture! The cattle and sheep will DIE. Did they not all die in the flood except for those on the ark?
That is a pretty gloomy prospect, indeed. I assume those of your doctrine are expecting to be raptured, and therefore are living frugal, pious lives, and have given most of your wealth to the poor.
Those living before the flood had no idea what was coming - simply because they could not believe Noah. They should have, but did not.
What is coming is going to be just as dramatic. This time the world will be destroyed by fire. Once again, many just cannot believe it will happen. A few (as compared to 7 billion) will survive to enter the Millennial Reign of Christ. ONLY believers will be allowed in, as I read it.
considering the fact that God is offering eternal fellowship with him to those in Christ, I'm not sure what the attraction of the millenium is, nor the necessity of clearing the 'bar' to get there. It is not heaven, and God does not grant justification from our sins if we believe in it. Are you saying there is a 'dress rehearsal' for God's day of worldwide judgement? A practice run? A limited release to select markets?
I don't find this at all in the NT. The passages in plain language about the final day of judgement (the final earthly judgement of Israel having been back in the DofJ, Lk 21) all indicate a swift, complete event, no drills or practices, and the new creation succeeds from that time on.
You didn't respond to my comment and implied question. Here it is again:

Are you, and have you?
