  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

He's not a Christian, rather a devout Hasidic Jew with a strong devotion to God. (Sad how someone can have such a strong devotion to God and still be lost though :( ) His music is raggae, and you can hear his love for God in his lyrics... I would have thought he was a Christian if I didn't already know he was Jewish.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else has heard him and what your thoughts are.

He loves God, definitely...I have no doubt in my mind of that. But its sad to know that no matter HOW MUCH someone loves God and wants to serve him... that without Jesus, they're still not saved from death.

Actually, even though he doesn't believe Jesus was God's son, he still believes that Jesus was one of the greatest men ever to walk the earth.

He's nowhere near lost.

*bump*

I wish he believed that Jesus died on the cross for our sins.

Here are the lyrics to his song king without a crown which includes quotes from the bible. mainly from the bk of Psalms

"King Without A Crown"

You're all that I have and you're all that I need
Each and every day I pray to get to know you please
I want to be close to you, yes I'm so hungry
You're like water for my soul when it gets thirsty
Without you there's no me
You're the air that I breathe
Sometimes the world is dark and I just can't see
With these, demons surround all around to bring me down to negativity
But I believe, yes I believe, I said I believe
I'll stand on my own two feet
Won't be brought down on one knee
Fight with all of my might and get these demons to flee
Hashem's rays fire blaze burn bright and I believe
Hashem's rays fire blaze burn bright and I believe
Out of darkness comes light, twilight unto the heights
Crown Heights burnin' up all through till twilight
Said, thank you to my G-d, now I finally got it right
And I'll fight with all of my heart, and all a' my soul, and all a' my might

[Chorus:]
What's this feeling?
My love will rip a hole in the ceiling
Givin' myself to you from the essence of my being
Sing to my G-d all these songs of love and healing
Want Moshiach now so it's time we start revealing

Strip away the layers and reveal your soul
Got to give yourself up and then you become whole
You're a slave to yourself and you don't even know
You want to live the fast life but your brain moves slow
If you're trying to stay high then you're bound to stay low
You want G-d but you can't deflate your ego
If you're already there then there's nowhere to go
If you're cup's already full then its bound to overflow
If you're drowning in the water's and you can't stay afloat
Ask Hashem for mercy and he'll throw you a rope
You're looking for help from G-d you say he couldn't be found
Searching up to the sky and looking beneath the ground
Like a King without his Crown
Yes, you keep fallin' down
You really want to live but can't get rid of your frown
Tried to reach unto the heights and wound bound down on the ground
Given up your pride and the you heard a sound
Out of night comes day and out of day comes light
Nullified to the One like sunlight in a ray,
Makin' room for his love and a fire gone blaze

[Chorus]

I very much doubt he is "lost". Just because he doesn't fit in with what your definition of being "saved" is.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else has heard him and what your thoughts are.

Yeah, I do enjoy his music.

Believeing that is nowhere near anything of great importance.

This is not true at all.

I am so tired of hearing this. So tired that it's turned into a bit of a joke now. A cliche if you will. The idea that unless someone is a Christian, they're going to hell.

Well, whether he is Greek or Hasidic Jew, there is much truth to his lyrics which prove to be thoughtful, poetic, stimulating and righteous. Rather than pouncing on Matisyahu for being Jewish (which doesn't really make much sense, in my opinion), we should rather consider lifting him up for being such a positive presence in an at-times questionable genre.

I love him.

Not of great importance? It's your ticket into heaven!!!! =]

There is deeper meaning to that verse.

That idea of salvation is a joke, a ritual.

There's no significance, you say a few words and you're going to heaven.

It's in fact akin to a magic spell.

They're jumping on him because they believe that even though he most probably is a loving, Godly person that he's still going to hell because he didn't "accept Jesus". They consider him lost. *rolls eyes*

^^hmmmm. i agree that there is deeper meaning to that verse.

it's not just about saying a few words but believing in your heart that Jesus died on the cross for us.

When you truely, sincerely believe with all of your heart & soul that Jesus is Lord, then surely you will go to heaven. Because believing with all of your heart means following the word of God. Asking the Lord daily for forgiveness etc..

Right. But there are people who believe with their hearts, and not their minds.

How do you know? By their fruit.

I say that whoever obeys God loves him and does "accept Jesus", even if they don't believe with their mind. It's not what you believe that's important, it's what you do that is and especially what you do with what you believe.

I'm not going to jump on the bandwagon and push through the debate over salvation here (I think you two are going at it quite decently, thus far  me likey)

However...I must say that I'm a bit shocked at how some people can jump all over a person's faith (or lack-of-their-faith) in a Secular Music section which hosts so many threads on Metal, Hardcore, Screamo, Punk, etc. etc..(music, which can be debatebely considered godless, worldly, etc.) when this particular person's music is, for the most part, God-centered, spiritual, positive and quite edifying. Makes no sense to me.

^^yeah his music's excellent...particularly the lyrics which host various bible verses.

@ scotty: Can you answer this question then? If a person doesn't believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. Who will forgive their sins and erase the sinful past?

That is why it is important to believe that he died on the cross for us and was raised again to life. He did the most awesome thing in human-history. :D: Yeah bearing fruits is important. But you have to accept Jesus as your saviour so that every day you can ask him to forgive the sins you committed that day =] If you don't believe in him, your sins remain unforgiven, they just accumulate over time...

God can tell whether you have a repentant spirit for something you did. Even if you don't ask forgiveness, I think he'll forgive you.

Also, I believe in the Egyptian idea of judgement, when you die, your righteousness was weighed against your sin. If your righteousness outweighed your sin, you went to "heaven" so to speak.

You should read the story of Cain and Abel =]

The Broken Family of Cain and Abel
0.gif
abel-lamb.jpg

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, Swiss, Geneva, Sans Serif]When Adam's wife Eve conceived, she bore a son. Eve said, "I have received a man from the Lord." So she named him Cain.
Then she bore another child, a boy called Abel. He chose to be a shepherd, while Cain became a farmer. At a time appointed by God, Cain brought his harvest from the field as an offering unto the Lord, but Abel brought a lamb. The Lord showed respect toward Abel and his offering, but He did not honor Cain and his offering.

Cain was furious, so the Lord asked, "Cain, why are you so frustrated and angry?" God then reminded Cain that the death of an animal was required for sacrifice. Just as fig leaves did not cover Adam and Eve's sin, a gift of bloodless plants and vegetables could never cover sin either.
God said that refusal to bring an animal for sacrifice displayed Cain's rebellion, because he was not worshiping as God had instructed. The Bible says that Abel's sacrifice showed faith in God's words, but Cain's sacrifice did not. Throughout the Scriptures, God reveals that without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sin.
0.gif

But Cain still refused to obey God and bring an animal sacrifice. Instead, he blamed the problem on Abel, his brother, and when they were in the field, Cain attacked Abel and killed him.

Then the Lord asked Cain, "Where is your brother Abel?"
Cain answered, "I don't know: Am I my brother's keeper?"
God said, "What have you done? I hear the voice of your brother's blood crying to me from the ground. Now you will be cursed on the earth soaked with your brother's blood which was drawn by your own hand."
Then Cain went out from the presence of the Lord. His rebellion against God caused the first murder and the first broken family.
But Adam and Eve had many other sons and daughters.
