  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I used to hate math. I don't know why? What are the reasons? Galileo once said it is how God created the universe. I probably to hate math because my teachers instill hated for it or made it look hard. I even had a teacher who thought it was Satanic and she was an atheist. This sounds weird considered how can you believe in Satan if you don't believe in God?

I hated math. Funny thing is, I could often do it in grade school but not show my work. I did it in a odd way.

When i built my house I had to deal with circles/angles and such for some fairly extravagant work I did on it. I don't even recall the term that deals with that now but in school I at least learned it existed. After much working it out and checking my work, I was able to solve it all. Ask me how, and I could never tell you.

I avoid it like the plague for the most part yet do just fine.

To me math is just a way we approximate reality. Like you can count 2 oranges, but you can split each orange in half, so you have 4 halves. But each one of the halves can split on and on so many times we can't count the number of halves.

God is above all that so Galileo was wrong IMO, that sort of leads to idolatry saying that God created everything with math because we can understand math that makes us equal to God. We are not equal to God, through Christ we are adopted into His family that's after we die and are later resurrected with eternal bodies.

So math is just an approximation, a model of sorts we use that tends to work at our scale of observation.

Galileo once said it is how God created the universe.

A number of early scientists said this.

And they were right. There really are mathematical patters in nature, and those patterns really do come from God.

I love math. There's so many fascinating truths in it, like Euler's identity

I don't like math, specially figuring out how much I owe in taxes.
I attribute this to having poor math teachers.
I liked math and geometry, but ended up with a horrible algebra teacher in 7th grade, the rest was downhill from there.

Same here. All through elementary and high school, math was my weakest subject. I had to take 3 quarters of physics in college, which required some knowledge of calculus and differential equations. I'd never even taken trig, and was scared to death. But fortunately, my physics professors were excellent. They taught us the math as we went along. I aced all 3 physics courses, and learned more about math than I ever did in any math class. Good teachers make all the difference.

I have always hated math. It was soooo difficult to get. I got good grades, and when I took geometry I started out good, with A's by the time I got my first C I knew I was in trouble and went to my counselor. They advised me to just drop it. I did not need it to graduate and it was bringing my grade point average down to 3.8 so I very happily quite! Best thing I ever did! I wish I had quite earlier I would have graduated with a higher grade point average. Not knowing geometry never set me back in anything.
I hated those long math essay questions that made no sense the most--you know---if train B gets you to Portland in 2 hours and Train C gets you to Seattle in 4 how long does it take to get to San Francisco in train D? Are you kidding me? Really? That never did come in handy.
