Materialism and God

Went to Saturday service at my Weselyan church. Pastor gave an excellent sermon. He talked about material possessions. Basically it boiled down to if you value your material possessions more than God or do you value God at all costs? Remember what you sow is what you reap. When your time comes what legacy do you want to leave behind?

Sounds like a good sermon. I don't believe this is one of the sins I suffer with too much. I don't have much of anything anyway, I am a pauper right now lol. I do value some of my stuff though but not because it's worth much. I like my collections of movie memorabilia, love my books, mp3 player, computer, photo albums. Most of it's for sentimental reasons. I don't see that I put any of these before God or love/value them more...at least I hope not!

Out of curiousity, in the future i do plan (maybe like everyone) to have a big paying job, maybe out of security, or maybe because its something ive been deprived of for a while

If a time ever came when i got a oppurtunity to earn a very large amount of money, would it be sinful to say purchase a car which is half the price of a median house (A aston martin ferrari etc?). I wouldnt be purchasing it because id love to drive it down the street with a whole city looking at me, but because i might think they are a awesome looking performing car (so im a car enthusiast so to speak). Wanting something as extreme as this would the lord look upon me rather oddly?
