• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

i don't think you should give advice which is not possible to prove in any way.

It's not only advice my friend...it's testimony. And my testimony and other people's testimonies of freedom from masturbation is the proof. If you think you're not being harmed by masturbation...fine, I sincerely hope you're living a Jesus-filled life. I'm councelling people with sexual struggles...most of them with masturbation, and some that have gone further than that....common factor in all of them? masturbation... like I said, it can be a killer for some, and it can lead to danger.

Masturbation is unnecessary.

what? i have no intention to offend you, but do you know what an instinct is? Instincts are totally independent from our education/social enviroment...and although we can control/repress these instincts through all those values (including religious values) we are taught since we are born, they will always be there. You cannot just say: from now on i will not be atracted to girls. That's simply dumb.

our instincts are our "default configuration", our "bios". And by the way, i don't "struggle" masturbation. It's quite far from being an important thing in my life.

and why would this be a bad thing?

Why would it be a bad thing??? Ummm, because number one, the person you may have sexual thoughts about could be married. Number two, these sexual thoughts could lead to perversity (may end up doing stuff you KNOW is wrong in every aspect). Number three, you could end up coveting a woman/man that wasn't yours to take in the first place. And number four, it just common sense really. And don't act like "oh, well I wouldn't do stuff like that" because there's no telling what you would or wouldn't do when it comes to temptation.

Sin is greater than you, but God is far greater than sin. Never say never.

Remember that.

Wise words!
IMHO masturbation mostly results from lust, and if it doesn't then it results *in* lust. And thinking lustfully about a person, God's creation, is belittling to that person, and to yourself.

Some people call marijuana the gateway drug...in that it desensitizes users in a way that makes them more vulnerable, or more open to trying more addictive and harmful drugs. In the same way masturbation can be a gateway to greater sexual sin. The more you do it and the more you fantisize about it...the more you may being to justify greater sexual sin (premarital sex, prostitution, ect.). You teach yourself that it's okay to give into your every desire and you begin to have more trouble practicing self control.

And yes, just like marijuana, not everyone who does it is going to fall victim to greater sexual sin. Some manage to avoid it. But why you would want to do something that has been to be a stumbling block for so many Christian men...and that makes yourself just a little more suscetible to falling to the temptation of greater sexual sin, just for a few minutes of pleasure. You can deny it if you want, but sexual release can be addictive. You're just playing with fire.

You can argue all you want with me that there is nothing wrong with masturbation...and just as there's nothing I can probably say to change your mind...there's nothing you can say that will change mine. And in the end...it doesn't really matter, because I won't be the one you'll be standing before in the end (and I don't mean to give the impression that I'm perfect by that statement, as I have my fair deal of struggles with this sin as well). Bottom line is you've got to pray long and hard about what you are doing. Some day when you stand before God, how do you think God will react to your actions? Will he put a checkmark in the "good" column, or the "bad"? Will he smile and say "that's how I always intended you to be", or will he think otherwise?

Yes, it is a Sin...

"But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart." Matthew 5:28

There are things more important to solve in our life... As you said, masturbation concerns only about yourself, it's all between you and God.

I read somewhere a very long time ago that Masturbation for a guy is the natural way of getting rid of excess sperm. If it is not done then the body has to break down this excess sperm using hormones I think. So I don't thik masturbation as being bad really.

your body has other ways of "relieving" itself if needed - including wet dreams and re-absorption of sperm and ejaculant - neither of these are harmful in any way to the body - in fact they are the natural functions - masturbation is not a needed function - it is in fact, licentious

Merriam-Webster
Main Entry: li·cen·tious

Pronunciation: lI-'sen(t)-sh&s
Function: adjective
Etymology: Latin licentiosus, from licentia
1 : lacking legal or moral restraints; especially : disregarding sexual restraints

Mark7:21 For it is from within, from the human heart, that evil intentions come: fornication, theft, murder, 22 adultery, avarice, wickedness, deceit, licentiousness, envy, slander, pride, folly. 23 All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person."

2 Corinthians 12:21 I fear that when I come again, my God may humble me before you, and that I may have to mourn over many who previously sinned and have not repented of the impurity, sexual immorality, and licentiousness that they have practiced.

Galatians 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are obvious: fornication, impurity, licentiousness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, anger, quarrels, dissensions, factions, 21 envy, F39 drunkenness, carousing, and things like these. I am warning you, as I warned you before: those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such things. 24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

Ephesians 4:18 They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of their ignorance and hardness of heart. 19 They have lost all sensitivity and have abandoned themselves to licentiousness, greedy to practice every kind of impurity. 20 That is not the way you learned Christ! 21 For surely you have heard about him and were taught in him, as truth is in Jesus. 22 You were taught to put away your former way of life, your old self, corrupt and deluded by its lusts, 23 and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, 24 and to clothe yourselves with the new self, created according to the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.

2Peter 2:2 Even so, many will follow their licentious ways, and because of these teachers the way of truth will be maligned.

2Peter 2:17 These are waterless springs and mists driven by a storm; for them the deepest darkness has been reserved. 18 For they speak bombastic nonsense, and with licentious desires of the flesh they entice people who have just escaped from those who live in error. 19 They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption; for people are slaves to whatever masters them. 20 For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overpowered, the last state has become worse for them than the first.

Actually, if you do not touch, the sperm will come out via wet dreams (nocturnal emissions), or the sperm will be dumped in your urinary tract and will come out with your urine.

No we don't need to touch.

I always get leery everytime someone speaks collectively about a behavior we should ALL be doing or not doing. It's such a grand assumption that there is one correct or normal way of doing things.

I haven't masturbated in almost 6 months

Been there, done that. Wait a while.....

Because masturbation is addictive! It can DESTROY your life!

So is coffee but you don't see people dying from it either.

it can mess up cycles for women (so I've been informed)

Are you serious?! I'm in the medical field and this is the first time I've ever heard of it. Just the absurdity of this comment alone discredits you in a way.

Mikkey, I love you as a brother and all, but you really need to quite wagging that finger of yours at people, seriously. You come off as condescending and that's not an effective way to edify your siblings in Christ. I hope you're not playing up this guilt-trip with those whom you are helping. Because you will find out soon enough, it will do more harm than good in the long run.

I alwasy cringe whenever I hear someone speak collectively about the behaviors that we should or should not do. It plays upon the assumption that there is one correct formula for doing things the right or 'normal' way.

And you believed him? Are you serious?! I'm in the medical field and I have never heard of such a ludicrous claim. The mere fact that you bring up this
absurdity discredits you in a way.

Mikkey, I love you as a brother and all, but your comments is just inviting contention. You really need to quit wagging that finger of yours at people because you come off as very condescending and self-righteous. There are more tactful ways to go about this issue that can bring edification to your brother and sisters. I hope you don't approach the people you're 'helping' in the same manner because the guilt-trip approach will only do more harm than good in the long run.

and if you think of a spouse if doing it? Thats cannot be considered adultry right? Or is it still wrong? I know when you think of a woman that isnt your wife then its adultry but what if your mind is on a spouse? Just curious. Wouldnt this change most things? Sure it would be a very small percentage of ppl. 99% are thinking of woman or men who are not thier spouse. But anywho, just curious if its the thoughts that are the sins alone of the action?

I don't think it's anybody else's business to tell others what they can and can't do with their bodies. Masturbation is *not* licentious, and nobody should be made to feel guilty about it.

There is nothing in the ten commandments where God says "thou shalt not touch".

Keep cringing... and re-read what I wrote. I said "we do not need to touch". Most..not all, but most people who believe masturbation is ok, are usually ones who are enslaved to it. Stop feeding your selfish flesh.

RefinedByFire said:

You may be right. I haven't drunk coffee in over 5 years. Masturbation has enslaved me for almost 10 years. I could've lived a free, happy life in that time. sure, I worshipped God at times with instruments, and have had great times and spiritual highs, but masturbation was something that was filling my void in my life and made me more depressed. This void should've been filled with God.

In regards to women's cycles...a lady told me this. She told me that masturbation ruined her cycle...this isn't from me, it's from her. Am I supposed to suddenly drop her comment and suddenly start believing you?

Buddy...I'm not letting anyone stand in the way of my work! I'm a soldier of Christ, and Christ has been using me to help free people from masturbation. I believe masturbation is wrong and a sin. If you think it's ok and 'natural'....that's you're belief. Open your eyes, throughout this entire section, and look at the silent cries of people that are desperate to be free from masturbation and then ask yourself: WHY??? You don't need your medical practices to figure out that they're living very unfulfilled lives, and part of the problem is masturbation. They find it hard to control their minds, and most of the times, their actions are quite habitual (ie: they touch themselves without realising it).

They have become slaves to their own bodies....and that is NOT fine! I don't condemn people....I condemn the act! As for the people that I have helped and AM helping at the moment... The results speak for themselves. I can't say masturbation is ok to the people I help, because it's not! My and other people's testimonies is abundant proof.

Now, you don't have to believe me in this, but find a person other than myself who has been freed from masturbation and ask the person if they feel better after, or before. Seems like you haven't researched much in this.

I'll help people who WANT to be freed from this. I have no intention to debate with anyone whether masturbation is a sin or not.

Ephesians 2:3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind...

I don't care what you or anyone else thinks of me. I KNOW, that I'm a soldier of Christ!! I have my testimony! people have their testimonies! God's using me in wonderful ways to set his captives free! I NEVER consider myself better than anyone else, because I'm NOT! I know what it's like to be captive to your own flesh, I know how depressed I got, when I filled my void in my life with masturbation instead of God.

Masturbation is unnecessary! Get past the ignorance, and look at the possible dangers you could face if you performed the act.
