Mary the mother of James and Joseph

Two of the twelve disciples were named James:

1. James son of Zebedee was also called James the Great or James the Elder.
2. James son of Alphaeus was also James the Less or James the Younger.

Mt 27:

55 Many women were there, watching from a distance. They had followed Jesus from Galilee to minister to Him. 56 Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of Zebedee’s sons.

Who was this Mary the mother of James?

40 Some women were watching from a distance. Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joseph, and Salome. 41 In Galilee these women had followed him and cared for his needs. Many other women who had come up with him to Jerusalem were also there.

It was Mary the mother of James the younger. Mary the mother of Jesus was there also but this wasn't her.

It was Mary the mother of James the younger. Mary the mother of Jesus was there also but this wasn't her.

I just wrote about this with you in the past 24 hrs, and already I am confused again.

Didn't Jesus have brothers James and Joseph? So we have at least three Mary's at the cross, two of which have sons named James and Joseph?

Alphaeus is the brother of Joseph, which is why his wife Mary is called the sister of Mary the mother of Jesus.

Yes.

So we have at least three Mary's at the cross, two of which have sons named James and Joseph?

Right. Those were extremely common names at the time. Check out 25% of the females living in Palestine were named Mary at the time of Jesus.
