On This Chinese TV Show, Participants Have Nothing to Lose but Their Chains
Regal orchestral music strikes up, a computer-animated train races by and an old man with a bushy white beard looms onto the television screen. Then the studio audience applauds as an effervescent host opens an episode of China’s latest prime-time entertainment.

It looks like another Chinese talk show, but the bearded man is Karl Marx. This is “Marx Got It Right,” a slickly produced program that is part talk show, part indoctrination session — and a vivid illustration of the quirky efforts that the Communist Party under Xi Jinping is making to win over China’s millennials.

Well, bits of it, anyway

"Withering away of the state" is a Marxist concept coined by Friedrich Engels referring to the idea that, with realization of the ideals of socialism, the social institution of a state will eventually become obsolete and disappear, as the society will be able to govern itself without the state and its coercive enforcement of the law.

Think they missed that bit...which to be fair, gets missed by just about everyone.

There is one thing that I do think Marx got right. That being the malevolent nature of government. Most political philosophers believe it to be a necessary evil . Marx agreed with the evil part but for some reason believed, despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary, that it would someday become an unnecessary one.

It is strange to me how the Chinese who usually consider themselves the Centre of the Universe would consider a German - Jewish intellectual to be an authority on anything. Particularly since the revival of China since Mao owes everything to the in practice rejection of Marxist teachings. It is the same with Darwin whom the Chinese also idolise. Both are irrelevant to Chinese progress.

The Communist Party in China would do better to find a new rationale and explanation for the concentration of wealth and power in their hands at the expense of the proletariat than one which the whole world has long since rejected as false.
