  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

"Green Acres" comes to mind. You know that marraige will not last long. Those city girls will not tolerate living on a farm the rest of their lives. Getting up before dawn and doing all of the chores.
Hate reality TV.

It's probably a good thing our family doesn't have a TV. As a farmer, I get the feeling this is not going to portray us in a positive light.

Actually, if it's the same show I've been watching, the farmer and his family/friends are great. It's the city girls who are cast in a bad light.

I watched one of the commercials. LOL That was enough.

AFter the commercial was over my bride and I looked at eachother with a "what the heck was that" look on our faces. LOL She asked why would they do a show like this? Don't they know farmers and ranchers have no money?

We have family and friends that farm and ranch, and I've helped lamb etc at times. You spend your whole life trying to break even.

I suppose the size and type of outfit, and goal, would make a difference in that. Around here it's not until later generations that any real profit is seen.

But my point was in thinking of reality shows, The Beachelor etc, where we can pretty safely say it's about the money....well, marrying a farmer doesn't generally fit the bill.

Almost all the girls said they were tired of the "players" they'd meet at clubs in the city, so they were hoping to have better luck with a down-home, family kind of guy like the farmer.

Of course we know they just wanted to be on television. :p

BTW, contestants on The Bachelor don't win any money.

I didn't think any of the people on these shows won money...but they'd marry into money (at least in theory)
