  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hi, I am new to Christian Forums but have been looking for a place where I can get some much needed advice. My boyfriend and I have been dating for over a year now and have been seriously discussing marriage. I know he is planning on proposing very soon and we have also been looking into purchasing a house in the future. I love him very much and would be happy to spend the rest of my life with my best friend when he asks. The only concern is that he is not a christian. He is supportive of my faith and even attends church functions when I ask him to go, its just not what he believes. I have known of other couples who have gotten married in this situation and are very happy together, I am just worried. I just want some advice on if this is common and if it will work out. Thank You!

There is no way we can answer this question for you. There are a lot of factors involved.

If you love and respect each other and have good communication and are honest with each other then there is no reason why you wouldn't have a good marriage.

If you aren't honest with each other (for instance, you secretly hate him being an atheist) then that dishonesty will manifest itself into various behaviors and actions that will sabotage and destroy the marriage.

So, it depends on your relationship and how you decide to deal with all the various important life issues (like child rearing). If you can agree on all the important stuff and you are honest with each other and have good communication then again, there is no reason why your marriage can't be successful.

People of different faiths have good successful marriages all the time. People of the same faith get divorced every day. And vice versa.
