  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi guys,

I posted in OBOB about this, but someone suggested I come here, too. I don't want to re-hash what I've already said, so here's the previous thread:

http://www.christianforums.com/t1761316-marriage-proposal.html

Maybe you guys might have some suggestions, comments, etc. :)

Short version:
I'm thinking of asking my girlfriend to marry me. We've dated off-and-on for about 3 years, but pretty seriously for the past year solid. We are taking a trip together to visit my dad in another state in a few weeks. On our last visit there, we visited (in a touristy-manner) a gorgeous cathedral. I wanted to attend mass there, but we were late for the daily mass. This time, we're visiting on a weekend and I'd like to attend Sunday mass there and perhaps propose on the steps... I don't want it to be too elaborate, but I want it to be nice... this is the church... these are the steps... The only downside is we cannot be married in this church as it's 1,000 miles away and probably booked for a decade to come :)

That is very pretty! Are you planning on just walking outof the service and popping down on one knee right there while everyone else is walking out also? I think it would be a beautiful place to propose but if I was proposed to, I would want to be alone with the person, so do it at a time when there aren't people walking by everywhere being distracting. Best wishes! :)
