Why? In California, it is not legal for a minor to drink alcohol, drive before the age of 16, vote, or see an R-rated movie. Their parents are responsible for ensuring their medical care. But a 16-year old girl can sneak off and get an abortion?

If I had a teenage daughter, I'd be very concerned about the thought that she could authorize a serious medical procedure for herself of any kind, let alone killing a baby.

California is a very sad, sad state.

In most states a person under age 18 can't even get a tatoo, let alone a major medical procedure, without not only parental notification, but consent as well . . . . just to put this in perspective.

I agree with you David. In California, you can't get a legal tattoo unless you are 18 too. Also in California, you have to be 21 before drinking and 18 to register to vote and go into the army... also prior to being 21, one has to have permission from their parents to drive a car as well...

Why should a 16 year old be authorized to have this right of an operational procedure without the consent of their parents. This is ludicrous.

Lord have mercy, God have mercy... Mary and the Saints, please pray for us sinnners.... God help us all.

I SO agree. I live in one of those "liberal" (sorry Charlie) "progressive" states that thinks abortion is such a woman's "right" that it needs to be "protected" at ALL costs. I would hope that my state would not be one that would also think the schizoid thought that underage CHILDREN would be allowed to just get major surgerical procedures WITHOUT their parents knowledge, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Still my underage granddaughter had to get permission just to have her ears pierced and I've heard of children being expelled from school from just carrying an aspirin!

Of course, I wonder just who exactly pays for the operation the strangers take the underage CHILDREN too. BTW, I wonder who pays for the medical procedures necessary AFTER one of the "safe" abortions and who listens to the child cry because of the emotional AND medical problems afterward?

Because I think eliminating the concept of patient/doctor confidenality is dangerous and harmful to young people. I say this as a young person myself - there are many things I would not like my doctor calling up my parents and discussing as they were said strictly in confidence. I think it is a dangerous thing to do and may stop many minors visitng a doctor to discuss things.

If minors are in need of medical attention, of any kind, their parents need to know. And more than that, they have a right to know. In our school district here in Michigan, the schools can't even dispense asprin to the kids without parental permission. Not even in High School. Nuff said.
